SO what could be wrong with working out a way that doesn't happen quite as often. I shall try to draw it on the iPad of joy tonight. |

iiiiiiitick, I like the idea of the aft facing pole... It would have to start about 6" forwards of the forestay (or maybe at the end of the pole, where the assy tack is) but I think it would make gybing interesting, to say the least. It could easily be tried on a boat like a 2000 to see what the effects are. It would certainly stop the need for 6 foot long arms to goosewing the kite when the bowsprit is out.

Never, used or rigged one then Jim? You NEED the guide line as tight as possible, or you just get snarl ups....... Jon |

I have run this idea past my very intelligent cat. This was his solution. The inboard end of the jib stick is attached to the bottom of a 6' tube which runs on the forestay. This makes the forestay stiffer without increasing tension. release the control line and the tube with stick attached flys up the mast.....My cat says, "Bring me a problem and I'll find a solution". When the stick is fully tensioned the bottom of the tube is bearing on the bow eye.

There is lots of tension on the stick when it is fully extended.

And that is why the guide line needs to be bar tight, I have even seen N12's with what appears to be reverse bend on the mast, caused by the dangly pole guide line. Jon |

but at least it's an honest photo.... I'm kind of bored with every photo on a dinghy selling website being a planing shot.
One of the reasons I still sail dinghies is because they are far nicer in displacement mode than windsurfing, and it's much more enjoyable than the usual windsurfing alternatives of spending lots on mountain bikes, paddleboarding or digging in an allotment.
