I have run this idea past my very intelligent cat. This was his solution. The inboard end of the jib stick is attached to the bottom of a 6' tube which runs on the forestay. This makes the forestay stiffer without increasing tension. release the control line and the tube with stick attached flys up the mast.....My cat says, "Bring me a problem and I'll find a solution". When the stick is fully tensioned the bottom of the tube is bearing on the bow eye.

And that is why the guide line needs to be bar tight, I have even seen N12's with what appears to be reverse bend on the mast, caused by the dangly pole guide line.
