Wow, lots to consider there, thanks JimC, I'm touched you'd go to the trouble of drawing that up for me, now I have to get my head round it.

I've played with my paper towel and now I need to make a makeshift model out of pencils, blocks of wood, and a fan, maybe tonight, got all sorts of problems at work today. I shall certainly explore that.

I've wasted too much time ranting on the Icon thread already.. That's the trouble when you're a wind up artist yourself, you don't always spot when it's happening back at you..

So I've got to go offline for a bit to catch up with work, happy to look at any other ideas, but fundamentally it must be at home both on the sea with lots of room and a very confined lake that often uses fetch run courses.

Fundamentally, what's the problem that you're trying to solve?

Freedom 25 has a swiveling pole fitted to the bow, with a symmetric kite attached to each end of the pole.

Hoyt gun mount. Best picture I've seen. Head can't be too stable...

Sail an MR? That's blasphemy.

Then Sir, IMO, you shall remain in the dark.... and probably convince yourself that some kind of horribly stringy "shape changer" malarky waving about in the air of the front of the boat (in which you and an equally damp & confused crew shall reside), is a good idea, worthy of your dough.

.. rather than just borrowing what is a very, very, highly developed system and using that instead.

However, it is your dough, and your choice.  Good luck.

It's amusing that you think you can simplify a spinny system when really, I'd be looking a just borrowing a good one and worrying a lot more about aspects that will have far greater impact on you getting the boat around your puddle and boat park, never mind the raging surf of Kent; like foils, weight aloft, weight not-aloft and a decent trailer Wink

I'm really not interested in the various levels of sophistication and complication necessary to force an old clinker built tub through the water, they had to do that, I don't.
I have a very nice sleek un complicated design that ought, given even the same sail area, to be capable of matching the ever so sophisticated rope knitting of mad folk and alcoholics as a precursor to breaking the bar record for 'dark & stormys' each year at Salcombe S.C.(£8000 last year!)
I also have the collected minds assembled here, if they can be freed of the constraints, the class system and the years of imprisonment of the status quo have tormented them with.

Here is an opportunity to have something modern with a fresh thinking approach to the kite using either a bow sprit or a conventional pole/dangle jibstick, something you can reach high and fast or soak very low in confined waters as well as on the sea, it cannot, in 2014 be beyond the wit of man to come up with something that will beat an old tub like a Merlin using no more sail area. That is the task at hand here.

And this is what we've got to build on.

So to quote Morpheus, 'free your minds' people
