So that's it. I don't really see the point myself since a young lady friend of mine sailed one in our recent open at only 8.5 stone. She managed 1 race with the big sail and two with a cut down. She normally sails a Lightning to good effect.

How can you make a Supernova any more simple than it already is?

Pull up sail...go sailing.

There is no raking rig to worry about... I really must try to cade a ride in one at some point!

I'm guessing a soft or semi soft sail with a smaller roach set on a bendier mast would make the boat friendlier to lightweights.

I always thought that a Nova-Lightning would be nice. No shrouds and bendy mast. It makes me laugh that Mark Giles (designer of Lightning and Supernova) told me that the Supernova lowers were to stop the mast breaking when recovering from inversion......now they are adjustable?

You should try one Paul (Jeffers) you would not be disappointed.

Well he 4 or 5 at Hunts now. It is just a case of sweet talking a owner in to allowing me to borrow one for a race.

I think you will find the newer supernovas have raking rigs.

They do indeed have raking rigs and it is amusing for us Lightning sailors to watch the antics of the 'grown up' fleet trying to come to terms with it.

The Blaze experimented with them but found the offered no advantage. The Supernove might be different though as they at least run some rig tension!

They don't have any rig tension with the rig raked, just loads of kicker same as the Solution, its all done by simply easing the forestay then picking up the slack with the kicker.
When they say you are too old you probably are, but do it anyway.

The boats now can fit adjustable lowers to keep the bottom of the mast from sagging off when the rig is raked. I have them, but frankly hardly adjust them. The raking rig  does however have a big effect on power allowing you to keep the boat flat as the wind builds. The whole rig has very little tension, but works surprisingly well.
