I’ve had boats without bungs in the past, but they did have hatches. I’m amazed you can collect enough to actually drain out though – if there is no leak the condensed water can only be from moisture left from build or dew collecting inside the hull overnight. And dew shouldn’t get in if there is no hull opening... |

Surely one of the reasons that you have a rudder blade being released is that you can fix the connection between tiller and stock. If you release the pintle what happens to the tiller/ stock - would it slam down into the hull?

Won't the breather hole let in warm air holding moisture that then condenses out as the temp falls overnight.
Also if you do get water in because of damage then it will need draining out before duct tape is put over the hole ![]() |

It could do... but it depends on the rotation angle and geometry of the parts. |

Possibly. A bung is an easy retrofit if needed though.
So you're familiar with my approach to maintenance! |

Indeed, the perils of design by committee. I'm happy to listen, but reserve the right to ignore it all! |

The Optimists use a clamp that goes round the mast and stops it coming out of its hole. No hull penetration required. |

What could possibly go wrong?

Don't make it a one trick pony. Most of us need a boat that performs reasonably well in all weather and sea conditions.
