The 'outing' of the new RS has prompted me to open up on a singlehanded project I have been working on for some time. Whilst primarily designed to satisfy ME (and my longstanding itch to sail a boat of my own creation), I obviously wouldn't object to every Laser sailor in the world buying one. I see it as something of a cross over boat - simple, robust and affordable enough for beach clubs, but lightweight, responsive and subtle enough to be a rewarding sail for racers.

Rig
•     Sleeved, square head, laminated semi-soft sail.
•     Two piece, sealed, carbon mast.
•     Kicker and downhaul led to mast base (like a Topper).
•     Carbon boom with off boom sheeting.
•     Three rig sizes (approx 60-75kg, 70-95kg, 90+kg)
Foils
•     Aluminium dagger foils (like a 29er).
•     Lower pintle grounding release mechanism
Hull
•     Long, slim, narrow, low and light, so it will provide good feel and feedback.      
•     Low freeboard for more fun and stability, and less weight and expense.
•     Narrow beam for quick manoeuvres and easy capsize recovery.
•     Open transom for self draining.
•     Contoured comfy side decks.
•     Bruise resistant 45kg hull weight.
•     Hopefully with a recyclable and hammer proof construction.
•     The only hull fitting is the single toestrap and possibly the pintles.

So, ignoring for now the practicalities of starting a new class, I would welcome any feedback on the concept.

Good points. There will be a mast retention device, but am trying to do that with without a hull penetration.
It shouldn't need a hatch if there are no fittings that need internal access and/or there are no leak paths through fittings that you may need to sponge out. It will need a breather hole or bung though, to stop it exploding in the heat!

Yes, I suppose in many ways. Or a modern Laser, if you prefer.

The low freeboard won't be to everyone's taste, so it probably isn't suitable for budding Soloists (not that you are Rupert!). The sidedecks are angled like a seat being leant back on - so the outboard bit is lower than the inboard bit. In fresher winds you are leaning out enough to stretch your legs (and the recling seat angle should aid hiking) and in lighter winds you are perched on the higher inboard bit, so you knees are not quite so close to your ears as they would otherwise be.   

You don't necessarily need to 'screw' fittings on.
