No, not a bandit- it comes with whatever handicap your sail committee agree to give you.  Upon generating enough returns it will no doubt create an entry on the official list from the RYA.

But if we're expecting Mike to come out and give it a bandit recommendation, then I think we owe him a little more credit.  He knows he'd be damned if he does, damned if he doesn't... so why offer anything at all...?

Well it's on the Bandit list at our club now in its standard form, now someone who can sail properly is using it instead of me.

He's a big lad I'm sure he'll have one eye on that rig, I told him about the Carbon mast, got to do something to stop the lad Stand Up Paddleboarding instead of racing in light weather.

I always compare the Blaze and the Phantom, they race well together Phantom had the edge in light weather Blaze in Stronger breeze which used to suit me racing my pal, since he was a bigger stronger wind sailor and my light wind skills used to mean the opposite applied in the races to the facts of the boats performance.

But now, the Phantom has been handicapped off the results sheet almost and the Blaze is winning, another example of the iniquity of targeting just one craft in the PY witch hunt. So almost certainly that big rig will set the Blaze in the frame for the next witch hunt.

Most clubs do not alter the RYA yardstick, however much you tell them to.

Now there's a thought, buy a Halo and peel off the sail sticker, sail it as a Blaze.... I wonder if anyone at our club would even notice?  If they do question the lack of Blaze logo on the sail, just say it's a 'replica sail - measure my mast if you don't believe me....'

Grump's cheating thread really started something! Maybe we should call it lateral thinking, rather than cheating - sounds better...

exactly- I hadn't realised I was so naive, the rest of you are inbuilt bandit cheat wombles.... bending your rules, working with tolerances and as for the Finn class... well they may as well just come out and say it more directly... carry a good selection of single malts to bribe the officials... 'spirit of the rules'.  Yes, I get it now.... thanks Graeme, you are a true enlightenment.

What a spiffing idea .. but why measure the mast when you can just look at the sail ?!   Seriously I  know GRF and many more would be a lot slower with a Halo rig than a Blaze one   LOL  We were not about to undermine the Blaze community.  You have GOT to be big for this one.

Still believe sail area is everything .. is that it ? Are you really really sure about that ?  If you can't hold it cos you are too light all you are hauling around is DRAG and as we know drag is very slow.   Did board racing not teach you lot this fact in buckets as well ?

I'm very happy to organise a 'go' though if any of you want ...  if you are the right size you will love it otherwise 'be a bit careful what you wish for'  ...

Mike L.

PS - Oh - Yes there is also a minimum weight proposal for Halo racing - a crew one.  No not equalisation this just a minimum crew weight  for formal racing.  Pitch up all 'emaciated' on a light wind day (or a windy one) at less than say 90 or 95kg kg and you carry the difference in weights on the hull.  You have no or little advantage over the big guys in the light stuff and they have all and every advantage when it blows and they need it !

Funny that  ... 'they' requested it for some reason.

Mike, you originally suggested in the Halo stuff an all up weight of 155kg, so a down to weight blaze would mean you'd only need to be 83kg....not that big really.  Has that changed?

because Solo Joe, Lightning Lenny and Miracle Mandy won't know the difference, it looks like a Blaze for an intents and purposes... and it will be their fault for not knowing my class rules, same as if they hadn't removed their widget-flip-switch that was outlawed at their recent AGM and I don't notice.

Hi Neptune

I'm only getting things going - if 'they' want a simpler rule at 'n' kilos crew weight as has been suggested that is up to them - the Halo owners - when they formally get together.  I'm too light to be that concerned either way on a personal basis - currently I would need to carry 8 or 9 kg of weights and know that in even moderate breeze I'd be better off with a regular Blaze sail - yes really..

The idea was always to ensure Halo was really tightly 'ring-fenced' for the bigger guys.   You might be OK as a raiding 'weight-bandit' in a traditional big guys class on a light wind day or over a light wind event ... but not with Halo.  You can join in, why not, but you will not enjoy an advantage purely based on your weight.

Nothing is 'set' yet, and Cirrus will not be involved much as time passes - but for now I'm pushing a process forward.   It would help greatly if we encourage clubs to send in their racing returns ... there are quite a few Halo out there now.

Mike L.

PS - Still at Datchet on the MPS ?
