Strikes me this is still the problem of sticking to old stuff that is not that tuneable. I wouldn't mind betting that the rig on say that C2 could be tuned to a wider weight range than the bloody old Ally Laser. It was one thing that as a lightweight in competition sailing on race boards I could at least welly what you would call the cunningham but works a bit different, a tad earlier and stay in the game against the taller heavier types by maybe stuffing it a bit harder higher when it was windy and they funnily enough used to be able to compete using a similar reverse technique against us lightweights in light winds. But for the life of me and I've sailed a few different single handers now, i can find nothing as tuneable as our race rigs and certainly nothing that would work without a totally recut sail, they just don't appear (C2 excepted)to employ the range of luff curve tuning. You can tell that by the way their masts end up perma bent, so it would make sense to anyone who knows their rigs, to choose something that would tune across the divide in a reasonable manner. |

The Byte c2 was....is....an out of the box cheap tuneable lightweight boat. The Europe was dropped on price grounds. Or so I believe. I am fed up with telling 'Scoop Fuller' to get one.

Actually the Finn is a bit of a lumberer for substantial gentleman, not my cup of tea at, all but I would like to try a Europe. The problem with the Europe is that you to have to prostrate yourself when you tack. No 6' + girls in that then! Eh' Sarah and Shirley?

I remember having a go in a Europe when I was about 14 or 15. I was probably 6ft by then. I don't think the boom is any lower than an OK, and it's pretty low on a Finn. I have not seen anyone racing a Europe for years. I suspect being an Olympic class and then losing that status has done it no favours as an amateur's class? By the way, not all finn sailors are big blokes, there is a fair range of people sailing them on Chichester Harbour. |

Don't know about 6ft girls, but the class chairman is a 6'1" bloke. He seems to get under the boom just fine. |

Plenty 6' amazons in Europes back in the day. :-)
No prostrating oneself that's a total misnomer, just sail with no vang and ease sheet. It continues to thrive as a class for blokes and girls in scaninavia Its a very good little boat |

There's actually more space between an OK's boom and cockpit floor than there is on a laser. |

OK's always look as though the boom shuts the door on the side deck....get your tack wrong and get decapitated! I am sure that is not the case however.
