1. Today I enjoyed some of the greatest sailing of my life in big winds, nice lumps and a great bunch of competitors from numerous classes out there.
2. Results were all online by 1830 (no mean feat considering all those different classes out there). 3. The "declaration" of how many laps you'd completed was a confirmation, to ensure there was no error in the tracking tech/human input - v wise IMHO. 4. I'm currently watching the race tracking on the big screen in Portland House, and it's all available for every race right now, through the Tack Tracker app, or through clicking the "LIVE" tabs on the event homepage. I've enjoyed this weekend more than I could possibly express, and am definately coming back next year. |

Well I can tell you the Bytes (in their Nationals) had no complaints about the sailing or the race management. The live tracking was a bit odd for us spectators....well you cant spectate really but I can pick out our boat through my powerful binoculars and since it was in front five times out of six it was enough!
Did someone really want to go out into the sea? It was hard enough to get back at the end of the last race as it was. There were some very classy sailors and some good video at the de-brief's. As an event it was not perfect but with some development it could be amazing next year.

Totally agree. This is the 1st time that the event has been held, and the 1st time that WPNSA has hosted and managed a large handicap event, so there were always going to be some hiccups. The fact that everything worked so well on day 2 shows that systems are being perfected and improvements made.
Most if not all of the issues raised earlier in the thread were due to constraints put upon the organisers by both outside organisations and common sense (the Harbour Authorities weren't happy for racing through the breakwater gaps). Yes, there are things I'd like to see improve, but rather than sounding off on here (and risk giving a falsely negative impression to those that didn't attend) I'll be emailing Simon with constructive comments to help make next year even better. We've had an incredible time and just hope the weather Gods stay on our side for the Persuit Race today. Edited by Bootscooter - 26 Aug 13 at 6:33am |

Yes this is the first year of SailFest and the planning only started at the end of last year, so a few teething problems. We know there are improvements we need to work on, but hopefully as demonstrated we are fully committed to progress things. Lots of ideas for next year, and suggestions most welcome. Already several classes have signed up to make 2014 SailFest one of their key events and we will be working with them to help them make the most of the opportunity In addition to the racing there have been an array of other activities going on both ashore and afloat, what has been very pleasing is the hundreds of newbies who have turned up at WPNSA to try a new activity. Today is the Raymarine Pursuit Race, Toppers first off at 10:30 |

what you stayed in the pond all weekend? Oh dear.... might as well have not bothered with the travel and stuck to a (insert generic midlands puddle) for club sailing.

On behalf of the class, thank you Steve. A good weekend for the class. How good did the little boats look out there? The 'boy' enjoyed his win greatly and was recorded at 11.8 knots on leg three in the last race. Were you the dacron 300?
