I'm not sure I agree with you to be honest.

Yes Olympic sailors work very hard in the Gym and putting in the hours for on/off water training sessions, learning about forthcoming venues etc plus the annoying trip to the local primary school to show them your medal after a long day in the gym.

But think how this compares to many peoples lives - I work chained to a desk and here we are Monday morning and nobody has said a word to each other yet we are 2 hours in!

And these are just first world problems - we could have to walk through a mine field everyday to school or be wondering where the next meal is coming from

Olympic sailors (or potential olympic sailors) work hard but it is a more varied livestyle compared to most and that needs to be remembered.

If you consider sailing as 'work' Olympic campaign or not, then it's time to give it up and do something else..

I can assure you that if it had anything other than a positive impact we would not sail it or any boat.

Well good luck with that; if you have a gold medal round your neck in Rio I will concede that messing about in other classes worked; if not I'd say you should have focused more on the main event.

How much downhill mountain biking do you think Chris Hoy did in the build up to London? Just think how that could have improved his bike handling and reactions ... do you think he did any?

oh dear, someone got up on the wrong side today...and is also showing a complete lack of understanding of how you develop feel and control in sailing.  Ah well.  So much easier to criticize than to do.

Very nice. However I have never understood why Olympic hopefuls mess about in other classes rather than focus on their own.

I don't suppose Sir Chris Hoy spent much time messing about on a BMX in his pursuit of sprint gold in London.

Plenty of sportsmen train hard at other sports, let alone slightly different disciplines in their main sport.
Sailing one class at olympic level, there must be a danger of racing against the same few people all the time in the build up.
Even at club level, sailing a different class now and then has increased my understanding of the 400.

The main reason for olympians and aspiring olympians to stick to their own classes is probably a reluctance to get beaten by amateurs?

It is well know that most cyclist ride more than one type of bike as there are good response to ride all of them.

Nice addition to adventure playground for 'special people'?

Varnish weekly's task of the month (how can we make this look like new)?

Nope?

I give up, your point is?

Edit and I hate the fact I even noticed, but if you were thinking of spoiling some pleasant and watery place with that thing where would you hanging a wiggle device to steer it with, or is it a row boat after all?
