Happened to catch that last night... I must admit sooner them than me springs to mind: an hours blast on that beast would be one hell of an experience, but 200 plus miles... Mind you it would probably have been worse to be Clarkson's passenger...

It didn't look like a comfy ride. but it is a shame they put the least energetic person in the world on board, who then just whinged. Hammond would have been a much better bet for enjoying the speed, even if still finding the ride hell.

so then, having not watched it yet, does  the very fast, alleged glamour of an AC45 help promote sailing to the speed conscious, petrol headed, lifestyle show watching top gear junkie?  Or do they play the stereotypes and essentially say 'yachting' is a rich man's pointless activity?

That was the worst bit of pulicity for sailing ever. It was very wet, cold, rough and James May was seasick. Then finally throwing him in the sea with his drysuit full of air just looked plain dangerous.

Again it made sailing look very very expensive and elitist. Not a good advert.

I'm not surprised - nice one AC, bringing sailing to the people...  Thumbs Down

It looked amazing, i would love to of been in James Mays position.  Albeit It looked a little full on.  Not sure it would of done sailing much harm, it certainly helped pull the sport out of the deck shoe and smock wearing hoorah henry perception that most of my mates have.

I'm sure most people would have realized that it was sailing's equivelent of the Paris-Dakar rally, compared to what we mainly do as a track day or what the common perception used to be of people sippy champers whilst leaning on a red Farrari.
