Well it's only my opinion, but which bits do you disagree with, or are you about to buy an icon?.

All of it unless you've sailed one!
..

I base my opinion on sailing against them. OK only on one occassion, but how does it go?

When the class flag drops, the bullsh*t stops?

Or alternatively:

When the mengarie Class flag drops the stink of bullsh*t fills the yacht club bar  Wink

Mr Welly .... kind sir - any boat dead down wind can always be helped by a stabilised rig, especially in strong waves and big seas, even if it is already inherently fairly stable. Sail with the dangly bit and see for yourself ... you may even learn something (oh and if you do please pass the FACTS on to GRF Big smile)

I sailed the solo before I formed my views - to which I am now entitled - it is indeed a very pleasant piece of furniture!!!! Confused

My opinion of solos is based on watching people enjoying good racing in them.
And watching a few of them go fast enough to be interesting when it's windy.
Some good people to race against in that fleet.

Do you sail it DDW then? I would have thought it would make more sense to sail angles... It's very unseamanlike to sail dead downwind.

I have no interest in learning about a jib spar- I don't want one, if I was going to add complexity to the front end of a boat it would be with a bigger pole and more rag.   You can't say just because I've not used one (on that craft) I have no valid opinion.... but you are of course totally entitled to a differing POV, that's what makes forums great, just as long as we respect the fact we are allowed to differ and no opinion is more valid than another.

The fact is, I wouldn't want one because of it... so opinion forms facts, and fact forms opinion. To call someone's opinion ill-informed, when the are specifically referring to themselves, not really the product in question, well that's either arrogant or illogical. That's like telling Richard Branson he should use an iPad for his meeting notes, not pen and paper. He knows what works for him, telling him otherwise (and that he's wrong) is missing his point. Hopefully Winging It can interject with some Kantianism epistemology- either way we can be both right and both wrong, depending on context and definition ;-)

Oh yes Solo bashing... it's lovely furniture, with lots of others to race against. If you want to compare notes on 'pure simplicity' and sense of freedom, I'll see your icon (smod) and raise you one freeride windsurf quiver! Oh and I'll buy the pints as I'll have more change left....

I get that one may or may not like dangly poles, kites, trapezes, catamarans, daggerboards etc. but there's no need for language like that Jimbo! Windsurfer indeed... Mark, Mark profanities on the forum!

And what on earth is katianism thongywotsit?
