The Icon may be a bit of a handful for him - so he'll mod it and then probably condemn it as unsailable and start offering words of wisdom to the solo fleet - which we all know is where he belongs .... he's just isn't quite ready to admit it. On the other hand perhaps if he combines the Non-Icon with this fine piece of equipment the sailing world would be a safer place

HELP ... I'm currently limited to racing the Blaze at the moment, as in most summers, it is time again for 'Andy' the dancing farmer to do what it says on his job description and ... well 'farm & harvest' and things.  So no regular crew most June/July/August ...  Works out well most of the time and gives me some good Blaze time after the Nationals and the odd sailing week

We normally seem to do Autumn / Winter sailing together in Icon ... But it would be nice to do some proper Summer sailing in the boat as well ...  Anyone out there like to try crewing '03' with me sometime ?  Want to suggest a decent open event ?   even 'at your club' as a guest maybe  ? (Burghfield is growing its own weed harvest at the moment) .. I don't bite much and always seem to buy beer etc.

'03' is loaned out for Falmouth Week early next month (there will be at least two there in the handicap fleet) but looking maybe to do something over August Bank holiday like Poole Week (at Parkstone and now a 4 day one).

Alternatively maybe willing to loan out 03 for a couple of weekends when it is not already committed to the interested .. even for Parkstone or similar for 'you+crew' as I could easily enough do it in a Blaze   ...   (and it really will become a regular Cirrus loan boat very soon whern I finish another one- so if you want to try it over a couple of weeks let us know)

Icon on handicap ... Great Wednesday night racing. 1st overall, by 1.5 mins, saling off 1000 against 4 xRS200s, 4cats and a 29er. Max 8kts .... Sailing single handled .. Two sails ... Boat was electric, but then 13.5m of sail and only 85kg crew weight is probably cheating! Boat felt fantastic though and flew upwind and down. Running by the lee, goose winged was the way to go.

Hi Scotsfinn

I too sail '03' singlehanded from time to time ... (a light wind option only when the 'dancing farmer' is off doing his stuff in the fields - I'm about 83kg )  However the 'powers that be' determine that in this mode we now race off  '960' at Burghfield.  A bit of a challenge but still fun and 'do-able' some days.  Key is to cleat the jib and play the main  big-time and keep the boat as flat as possible. Offwind the dangle pole makes life easy enough - one tip when dead running is to pole it out to the max on one side and just gybe the main as needed.  This generally means you track slightly lower on one side and higher on the other ... but is easy and keeps you out of the tracks (wind shadows) of both symetric and asymetric spinnaker boats - few want to follow on both sides.  Dog-legging works !

Anyway the acceleration in this mode is even more (ie very) rapid than when two up but the boat is still 'easy'.  If it catches you out and starts blowing you will still get round / back fine but will suffer competitively of course....

Best thing is to be nice and promise beer to crew really !

good to hear about your single handing adventures guys... that was one of the things that attracted me to the boat in the first place.  A boat I could sail on my own, or ideally, with one of my kids in the future.

TBH- I'd pretty much thought it was non-starter following more recent posts, (it looks more powerful that I had imagined, which isn't exactly a negative), so nice to see you guys do actually singlehand it....

Seems like you Icon boys are already losing the 'one man, one sail' faith...

Not to worry, I may well soon be riding to their rescue with a third sail, that'll put paid to any ideas they might have of single handing...
