You could safely make the assumption you need to enter before the closing date - and it asks you for your rig decision then.  Changing at the last minute is usually possible with most things, but regatta organisers never thank you for it! Having said that Heather Chipperfield is bound to be on registration and she is always very accommodating, so to speak.

Indeed ...

Nick, how did you get ISAF to drop this requirement?

I'm sure it was nothing to do with any RS class....went back a fair while I think, maybe the Toppers in the early days?.

I wonder when the 10.2 sailor(s) at the just finished Europeans decided to change to the 8.4 rig. Was it when they saw the wind forecast for the weekend at the last minute or was it when they saw there were no other competitors using the same rig?

Knowing Huw, he'd of changed rig because there were no other 10.2's
I don't think any of the regular 10.2 sailors would change down when it's windy.

it sounds like the worlds will be a different kettle of fish though... Nick says a good chunk on the Hayling 10.2 are going, and the Swedish House Mafia are tooled up with the man's rig.

Maybe even Fab100 will even use his if the forecast is right... he might as well do one before the rule comes in to block him and his lithe frame from a 10.2 title in the future.... (unless 'Spirit of Pies' becomes rather less ethereal and he gets on the Fray Bentos and Guinness)

Do you have a pointer to the ISAF reg that permits this?

I thought the whole point of an ISAF class was that is was raced in good numbers around the world and that the class would hold ISAF sanctioned world championships.

If the class cant drum up enough boats to support the cost of an International Jury (IJ) I'd have been surprised that ISAF would have "let the class off" the requirement.

I also thought that the other reason an ISAF IJ is mandatory is that it cuts off the right of appeal after the event such that the world champion is exactly that ... not subject to appeal should a messy protest occur.

Anyway, if you can point me at the ISAF reg I would be most interested to read up ...

And I am sure lots of other International classes would love to avoid the expense of IJs if not needed. Especially as some classes allow pumping over a certain wind strength and the Jury have very little to do and are glorified safety boats.

I know the cost of an IJ is bitterly resented by some of the more amateur classes that generate few protests. Trouble is when they do generate protests they are sometimes pretty major - the Fair sailing protest at the I14 world in NZ is a notable example.

Maybe the RS100s will set the trend- a ISAF ratified World Championship without a battalion of rules bods on an expenses paid holiday in Lake Como?
