Pico Dagger board

   The dagger board in the Pico we have is very ill fitting. It requires all my adult weight to push it full down.  I have had a few recommendations but I am not sure what is best - silicone the dagger board or strip the casing. As no one at our club has a Pico I wondered if there was anyone out there who had fixed a similar irritation.

Also what should be used to clean the plastic hull?

Any help much appreciated - Thanks

	what type of daggerboard do you have the aluminium ones or the glass fibre (or whatever it is) one? The older ones can be sanded down a bit but it may be that the casing has been padded out by a previous owner causing it to have an issue.

	I've got a pico and yes they are difficult to get down at some points... I found it best to sand the inside of the casing and keep testing until its a good fit.. Hope this helps!

	Sanding does sound like the way forward - does the casing need to be disassembled to do this? Or can I just sand down through the slot? Not sure what it is made out of - I would have said wood - shows what I know. It's heavy and has a dink in it which could not be there it it was aluminium. Thanks for the advice - all much appreciated. I'm on the water all weekend with the kids so I'll take some tools and sandpaper with me.

	I strongly advise against siliconing the board: you want to be able to climb on the thing when you capsize! For similar reasons I polish the rudder blade on my boats but leave the daggerboard at around 800 grit finish.

	Good point - I particularly don't want to make it hard for the kids to right the boat. I was sent a very exact sanding instruction which I think I will follow unless someone pops up with any other gems. I am reading this off my phone and I think it was a message I recieved so it's not appearing for any one else to see. Thanks again it great to get such good advice.

	it's not the dagger board it's the slot gasket. What you need to do is unscrew the black fitting around the top of the dagger board slot, take out the gasket, trim it back a bit until it's right, then replace the black fitting - I recommend putting some sealant round the screw holes - and hey presto it's done. Really a very quick job if you have sharp scissors and a good screwdirver. We have a fleet of picos and many of them have this issue.

	Thanks for that sounds the easiest suggestion so far and one I can play with before doing anything I regret. Again brilliant to get this kind of advice. Weather looks great this weekend for getting out on the water.
