Much less water in the boat post capsize, much less free space for any water to swash around in, deeper water (or same volume) for self bailers to get a grip of so it bails better... If you wish to have open cockpit floor for ergonomic reasons it makes sense to minimise the area so its only where it needs to be.

The double floor at the front and back give added buoyancy, makes it class legal and adds stiffness to the hull.  I am no expert but it feels stiffer than my last Ovi hull

Last night I sailed my restored and uprated Lightning for the first time. Lovely evening, two one hour races and pub. My single handed career over the last few years has included Byte C2 and Solo. For the Byte you need to be on the game, the Solo past the game but the Lightning......just right.

Sailing a Lightning has solved the knee problem for me, but I am rather smaller and lighter - I think the OP would find one somewhat cramped. Worth a test sail though, I'd say, and well within budget for a 2nd hand one.

Just putting it out there...from memory, all non-trapeze singlehanders are going to be hard on your knees and back, for the bigger fella (or lady even) the phantom has the size, width and you don't have to work as hard to get a decent performance. Our club commodore has one, bought it years ago with the same requirements and wins alot of races with it!

Sod it - order a Punk from Holman

The 100 has been far the comfiest boat i've had. When it went light you could sit on the foredeck. No knee bashing at all.
