I hadnt realised the MX had no pole.  It also looks to have very little freeboard Albeit its on its ear in that shot.  Bet it would be a cold wet sail at the Bloody Mary...But then what isnt?

I think it would look better with a pole too. The kite is low you'd never see anything coming to windward

The MX looks really, really naff to me. Like an artists sketch with no thought or understanding of reality.

haven't you heard, remove the pole and you get 30 knots... with ease.   LOL

again... not wide enough.  I do wonder if the guys designing these have ever sat on a D1, Vareo or RS100 in a good F5 and thought 'hmm, what a seriously unnecessary amount of righting moment these craft appear to have'.

I think that is the problem with all these hiking single handers ... they real problem is they lack a trapeze ... or mega wings ...

I dunno, We seem to go pretty well upwind with our wings.  So i would probably exclude the D1 from that group.  The problem our competitors have is that they try and make a compromise with looks/width.  As with most things there are always compromises.  But for me the D1 just works.  The brief must of been different.  We want a boat that sails well both up and downhill whilst still retaining an element of stability.  Right thats that box ticked, lets try and make it look prettier.  IMO with the mk2 deck layout and Uk friendly colours they ticked that box.  The others seem to be lets make a boat look like this and compromise around how it sails.  Just my opinion obviously and take what i say as you will given my part time job!  But i would seriously urge anyone to have a go in a D1 before pidgeon holling all single handed hiking assys.

What would be great is a proper group test Ala Mountain BIke Rider  or MBUK magazine All 5 the MX, Asstom, D1, 100, Vareo etc. etc. Fairly sure the D1 Class would support this.  Money, mouth and all that nonsense.

I think I should be the official 'boat tester' my descriptive power would be perfect, particularly for those built in the fatherland.

Any boat deemed suitable only for lard boys would of course receive my wholehearted praise

Any boat without a centreboard would also go down well.

And if the centreboard and/or rudder didn't quite stand up to the ram it flat out up the beach test either, well it would just show up in the points awarded..

Well as I'm now a practiced tester and reviewer, I'd gladly give it a go!

So between Grumph and myself we've got both the weight extremes covered....
