Well, maybe not for me but perhaps not so loony for some applications.
The photos taken with a wide lens can be very distorted, the ones from the bow make the it look crazy but the stern aspect on the first post brochure looks nowhere near as extreme. Upwind hiking you would be just behind the dagger with say 80% of the beam and I guess you would also be looking to sail it fairly free to plane up whenever possible so maybe even sit a little further back. Just thinking how back you wire a Contender when planing upwind. Be interested to hear from an RS 300 expert.

Ha ha ha yes "owners hanging onto them" do they have Peter Mandelson on the payroll doing press releases? I suspect that, having gone over the top and launched, if it were a decent boat it would still be thriving.
Whilst its nice to see stuff coming out that is new etc, especially one that isn't derivative or just " fourteen feet of boat" but blatant bullsh*t like "it'll do 30kts" cheapens things and comprimises credibility of designers as a whole.
For me the MX Ray was a classic case of a dinghy being designed by a non dinghy sailor. Our ancestors didn't fight two world wars only for a "performance" dinghy to be launched amidst huge hype, that gets owned upwind by a topper.
I think the MX next looks similar. I'm sure it'll be good in one or two discrete conditions, in the same way perhaps that a stopped clock tells the correct time twice a day.

- and beaten to the leeward mark by a Laser running square as well...

There's no shame in trying something new and failing to deliver, but I have less time for failing and then pretending you succeeded.

I haven't paid enough attention to the new thing to make any predictions about success or failure, but it does bear a resemblance to the sort of thing that (at least in my days when there was paper) we used to doodle in our exercise books in school in that it ticks all the latest boxes in order to look flash...

Clap spot on Jim... always best to acknowledge when something didn't work, otherwise none of us learn.

My mother said not to say anything at all if you can't say anything nice, so I'm staying silent on the mx next.

So I have been sailing an MX Ray for a few months now and although it is a great laugh it is not really a great boat for racing in handicap fleet as it is log a god up wind and will not sail that low either. All in I am not that impressed which is annoying as I wanted to love this boat but now i regret buying it. Does anyone want one at all as mine is here [;-)]
