More details .... Boat really responds well in waves ; upwind in 12kts keep the boat flat ease the sheets and the acceleration is great and work the waves. The boat can point like a demon when you want, but I don't think that is the quickest. Early yet for playing dangly things, but certainly makes a difference on the reach. Have yet to learn when it plays to goose wing, and when to play the angles, but have noticed it pays to shift the weight around.
We sail long legs in the breezier days and we noticed 2:1 of the boom is too sensitive to get in the groove, especially in the gusts, tapered 3:1 main sheet makes a HUGE difference and it is easy to drop back to 2:1 for short leg light airs. Likewise on the jib, in our conditions we need a side deck cleat (not fitted) or it is impossible to keep a smooth track. the sheeting is all over the place, whenever the crew needs to do something, shift weight or gets bounced about in waves
We need to straighten the mast a bit yet to get sail set right.

In all the boat is so responsive, quick to plane and a joy when it's in the groove. Now to learning smooth boat handling and tacking!!!!

If you're thinking about an Icon .... Stop thinking and phone Rodney to place your order ... The forum is no place for icon sailors ... Get your a...es out on the water

GRF on the hard stuff ?  Not advisable with his medication surely .... (Fizzy water for him or 'low strength' stuff at best)  LOL  He could start getting lurid wild ideas about  'If GRF ran the Dinghy industry' ... oh yes of course he does.

If GRF ran the dinghy Industry you'd have to have a network of dealers and schools up and down the country encouraging people to take up the sport and profiting by that endeavour with boats sold at a decent margin in bigger volume and available on demand at point of purchase with after sales assistance by knowledgeable staff, staff who don't suffer from spinnakerphobia..

So GRF would go back to the way it used to be.....That's how the Laser and other classes started selling through enthusiastic and knowledgeable dealers , these were the guys and girls that then supported the club scene and their customers...sadly all gone now as builders and so called entrepreneurs want to enjoy the margins.

If you go back in time far enough Richard Simmonds (the Olympic and other events commentator) was the original Laser Rep LOL

No, sadly the way it used to be, 16% margin on a laser wasn't enough, it was the reason the windsurfing industry set the minimum margin for boards at 30% and sails at 36%, then clothes came in at 41-50% and businesses prospered.
This then went on to be repeated in the Mountain bike World , the Surf & Skate Lifestyle and Boardsports Industry and continues largely today in all the leisure based retail industries that sprang up following the windsurfing model.

Be nice to 'Mr' GRF ... we all try.  He is a very sensitive chap really and had a difficult upbringing with all those years on the scaffold boards.   His recovery is only a few years in the making so far and a sharp rebuke might set him back.  It is really a case now of continued  'care in the (forum) community'  ... a renowned supportive and encouraging environment so he can discover his real character for himself.  We get the odd setback when his past gets the better of him of course, it must be expected sometimes, when the irrational rants get the better of him.

When his progress warrants we will invite him to try an Icon for himself  ... but that might be some way off in the future (less babysham and brandy for him just yet).  Introducing him to the Blaze and some other craft too early had the nasty side effects as we have all seen ... and for goodness sake don't mention 'spinnakers' to him ... ever !  It switches the ranting straight back on that can rivel many an opinionated  Taxi driver ... "and while we are on the subject .. another thing....  etc etc !   LOL

Mike L.

PS - Just steer him gently towards more appropriate threads is the advice - Do NOT try distracting him away by creating one titled something like 'EPS - Wot no spinnaker - and why not ?'
