Well the C2 Byte is much faster than the old one and I presume the Megabyte is the same.

the 61kg given for a phantom includes centreboard etc, the weight given for a megabyte can't possibly include that because it weighs a ton!  The sail area given is for the standard white mylar sail.  I find it quite easy to speak authoritatively on the subject because I own one!  (for sale btw) and have also owned a phantom.

Phantom is 61kg, always has been (134.5lbs give or take a little).

But as you say its more than 130lbs.

It's not just about sail area though - the megabyte is a fair bit heavier than the Blaze and the Phantom, which does make it slower.  It's also an unstayed mast with quite a flexible rig, in my mind this means its not always easy to keep power in the rig, but I am quite possibly wrong on this.

I think you'll find I was being a little facetious there... any manufacturer should consult with the RYA and produce a trial PN 'letter to clubs'... It's not that hard once you acknowledge that 'the RYA' are just fellow sailors, real people capable of perfectly normal conversations, plans of action and joint statements; and not some monolithic institution these forums would paint them as.

Why on earth would anyone buy a boat that the manufacturer had not tested and developed enough to have a pretty good idea of how fast it is?

Which is of course not the same thing as knowing how the spreadsheet botherers will treat it.

Probably the area excluding the roach. It's traditional for mainsail areas to be quoted like that. Sail design software tends to report the actual area including any roach or foot round.

Best wishes from deep in the woods
