can't speed sails afford to put a new kite on it... with matching numbers?

I just can't believe that a brand and it's sailors can stay silent whilst "accusations" such as this are circulating about - incredible. Just for clarity, this is not a go at Jimbo (Pondmonkey) as he is simply articulating what many seem to be thinking.

Know that feeling......the irony is: the folk bending the rules are the ones who are "taking it too seriously"

Because they are loving every minute of it. Every time someone mentions they cheated by using some new super sail called tape drive, they increase the reputation of tape drive for making the boat sail faster even though many people here have said it probably makes no difference. If it makes no difference whats the fuss about? But that doesn't matter because everyone is starting to think it adds 10knots to your speed etc... ...so then when the fireballs eventually approve it (the press release doesn't say they will never allow it) everyone will want one... No such thing as bad publicity... ![]() |

I dont think it makes any difference at all, but for me its the principle. In the grand scheme of things I dont expect things to change but at least I can sleep straight in my bed at night

I'm not making a judgement one way or the other, but I thought I would point out that posting on a website can be slanderous, and IF some of the companies mentioned in this forum, who have NOT at this point been proved to be cheats, took some of the posters to court, slander could well have occurred.

define cheating? The sails appear to not have been measured, therefore they are in breach of class rules. Speed can't say they measured in-house by the contractor, Banks Sails... in-house measurement is not approved for the Fireballs.
If you are sailing a boat out of class, then whether deliberate or not, you are sailing outside of the rules - vis a vis, 'cheating'. For the benefit of fair observation, I will quote the statement issued via Mark:
You decide if you think it is acceptable or not for a professional sail loft (albeit it a virtual one) to ensure that their jockey gets their sails measured before a handicap PY event. As I said originally, I don't care, it's a handicap chrity race; but I respect the opinion of those who do and acknowledge that the events seem to held in more esteem than I've ever given them credit for... the PR fallout, the stuff I've heard offline and how it has seemingly been handled post-event, well that's hardly becoming of a business I would choose to buy sails from in the future.

James,
I'm glad someone called you on the cheating allegation...not for the slander, but because I don;t agree that you should bandy the allegation around without taking the action that goes with it. Before you say - but protesting not my thing and I wasn't a competitor, if you want to formally accuse someone of cheating the route is there - just make a report to Rutland. (BTW if I were Rutland or the Sailjuice team I would only act on a report.) To me the post above could be construed as carefully constructed and interesting as much for what it fails to say as what it says....but I've taken it (especially in the context of Mark's comments) at face value. I think you need to get over it, and either shut-up or do something about it. But the cheating accusation is out of order if you're not prepared to do something....because only exoneration can disprove your point.... I guess if I was the crew that's another reason for not posting here - they have nothing to gain....better to let someone make a report.
