Find it odd that the British Moths aren't there, especially with a couple of keen builders in the class currently.

Any Moth sailors who are coming are welcome to come and say hi to me on the Lightning stand, seeing as I can't visit you on yours...

I look forward to the show every year. Some years I leave a little disappointed, others full of renewed enthusiasm. Which is odd, as it is pretty much the same every year. Must be to do with the people I talk to. Last year, for instance, I visited the Cadet stand, and found they have records of boat owners going back to the year dot, and sure enough, my name by 5454, Shamrock.

Some classes really make an effort to welcome people to their stands - others seem somewhat of a closed shop. Go with the former, stand holders!

RB, I've taken 2 under 4's to the show, but not had to deal with 3 triplets... So long as you don't expect to stop and chat for too long, you'll be fine, if you have coped for this long! Plenty of balloons and shiny things for them around the place, and several places to sit down and eat.

make sure you remember a few of the salient facts in that story...

- poor lad has still yet to let you beat him- ever (over the water- at RS100s) or on handicap (when he'd never sailed a Finn before, nor in fact any dinghy worth a bean since we jumped overboard on the RS100s)

- poor lad will be out sailing as your sorrowful crew has to toady around after you all day, listening to all that's wrong with everything and how it was so much better in the 70's when rudderless racing was 'kewell' and a strange little bearded fellow could hold a couple pints of Carlsberg before being dwarf tossed out of the compound.

- poor lad has the option to race around 10 like for like boats this sunday, nearer 20-25 in the summer- just 30 minutes from home; and doesn't have to pack boats up one evening this week, put under covers on, hitch up and dump boat at home ready for the 60 mph tow to the south coast (assuming of course the A34 allows anything like 60 mph for more than an occasional stretch), take undercovers off, put masts up, fix boom on, go sailing, come ashore, take masts down, put undercovers on, hitch up, tow home, tow to the club, deposit boat in space... knowing that come the following weekend he's got to unpack boat, take undercover off, put mast up, clip boom on blah blah blah... all before he can get out on the water for a club race again.

you can do both in September hopefully... or of course at any number of the handicap events over the winter, just as long as your boat is out of class.

Can I use my replica sail then.....

(I'll get my coat)......

only if it's the one which came with a free stump and actually measures 8.1m

Mine came with a free mast section and measures 8.1 sq m........can I still use a PY of 1083?

Thanks and what a great idea. If he'll fit one of those rotating mast fittings then we'll have a merry-go-round as well.

That's true.

Contenders - not interested
International Canoe - don't even notice you
Phantom - Wear a mac or they'll splatter you with cake, beer or bits of pie
RS- they can be chatty as can Ovington.
Blaze: depends who's there, have had great conversations and sometimes not.
Cherub: They're looking around for who chucked the stink bomb
Vortex: always have a chat
Aardvark: very friendly, great chat
Merlin: So far up themselves you'd need a ladder and a torch to find anyone.
Finn & D1 always chatty (If they're awake)
Farr 37 was also chatty but so busy you could hardly get to talk
The Riverboat lot have got plenty of old bull delivered with a smile
The Scorpions are OCD with mild autism
The GP14's have a cap on the ground you chuck coins in
Then there are the wood bothering, varnish polishers in their slippers and pipe free cold turkey, just shivering.

There are all sorts, it's a fun day out.

you forgot the musto skiff stand Graeme...

the last dinghy show I went to, I went over to the musto skiff admiringly, and explained that (at the time) I had an RS600... the response:

'touch this and you'll be cured son'

They just stand there death glaring anyone who passes, just put your blast shield down and stride by purposefully...
