I personally think it looks like a great boat, it has held its own against the 200 which to me seems a better racing class, but then i have never done an event in a 2000!
I think it has survived well all these years under Laser (or whatever they chose to call themselves these days) and has had good turn outs.
It is perhaps an overlooked class, it is not something i would have considered to be honest, but then i probably do not fall into the target market.

I think it lacks the jazz of say the RS classes, but i believe that is probably down to marketing. Get LDC pumping in the glossy images etc and i think the class will just get stronger. In an ideal world it would be brought up to date with the change, sort out the niggles described above, make it look less of a training boat and more of a racer.......the class wil probably disagree and waffle on about how good the sails are etc, but to hell with it.

Theres a shed load of them kicking about, more than i realised, seems to me they need a big drive to get those boats active and at the nationals! theres a load of 200 uni sailors that have naff all better to do all summer than go to another nat champs, pair them up with boats, get them to the nationals, get the numbers up, get the class appeal up, sell more boats!!!

The only issue is; is the boat direct competition to the 200 and even the 400?

Edit by Mark to remove offensive remark

No. Different animals.

L2000 - beginner step up, nice but dull (except if honking), cruiser potential
RS200 - lightweights lively racer.
RS400 - heavy(ier)weights lively racer.
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

I would say that it is the phrase that would sum up the class if it were full of females!

I don't know who you are Jamesd, but it's very obvious that you're an immature, uniformed little bigot, full of misogyny which unfortunately all too often pervades these boards.  That your nasty comments go unchallenged by the other posters just confirms my belief that this is not place for intelligent, informed discussion.  In short, I'm off to join BNS in the realms of common sense and decency.

the same, but different...

Trouble is, Nessa quoted the comment before you got rid of it, Mark.

Nessa, please don't go just because there is a pillock on here - better to rid ourselves of him, not you.

Not sure I really understand why any of this nonsense has started over a comment about how far you can bear away in a 2000. Maybe I'll come back later and see if the editing fairies have tidied up.

I'm not really sure I get it?

I like to consider myself well educated about such matters, and like to think I'm of liberal views, if admittedly, conservative taste... but really, what's he saying... is it that he likes a damn good pegging after sailing?  All respect to 'Mrs JamesD' for exercising her girly power, but really, it's not something we needed to know here is it?

James, I got to say i think you are out of order mate.  There are kids that post here and this is the second time within a month you have been offensive.  Its such a shame as your posts are great.  You dont need to appologise about their content just the language and terms you use to deliver some of your messages.  I am guessing you are not a parent yet and a younger chap, but think for a second how you would feel if your 14 year old who was mad keen on sailing felt if they stumbled across your posts?  its not about taking things in and out of context, its about how things read.

So please keep posting but please think about your audiance!

Wing wang, shape up now, don't be going all diva on us.
