Many clubs don't offer w/l racing because they are various combinations of small, narrow and funny shapes...
And reaching is fun dammit...

Are we talking about the minds of the committee or the water we sail on?

I can only speak for my club, but we used to do w/ls for the asymms and quads for everyone else in the afternoon, and gave it up after the asymmetric sailors got bored with W/Ls and said they wanted to do the quadrilaterals.

A little surprised by the 'anti-RS' nature of some of the posts here, IMO they'll do a good job of the L2K and adding them to the RS circuit events will certainly boost numbers and bring in a new demographic.

L2K is a good boat. It's a safe, easy, class racer and rightly popular with sailing schools.

Vision has a niche, it's a better family cruiser IMO as it can be dragged up beaches and shingle without lasting issues, something you definitely would not want to do with an L2K. As such it's also popular with sailing schools.

Agreed - a good design with a good Class Assc start getting their boats made by a company with a good track record of building quality products, good marketing, and supportive of events with a great customer-service reputation.
Everyone's a winner from what I can see.

The 2000 seems very close in purpose to the 200.
Having survived the 400 facelift, one wonders what will be done to the 200.
It will be interesting to see if the 2000 CA integrates or not.

What's the 2000 like internationally? Did Laser market it well elsewhere?

!!! I don't think you'll get universal agreement on that!
The 200 could be considered to be vaguely a kite equipped National 12 equivalent but the 2000 nearer to a sort of update Kestrel/Leader/GP14 type of boat. One is a dedicated racing craft, the other an all rounder.
Mum/dad/two small kids might go for a picnic round Chichester harbour in a Laser 2000, but I doubt it would be a great experience in an RS200...

You mean it would take too long in a 200? :-)

I meant as a racing class. Similar people seem to race them, vaguely similar PY.
Or is the 2k significantly longer and wider?
The 'school' 2000's are heavier I believe?

Agree with Jim- a 200 is not a picnic boat, it's a great little racing boat (one of th best ever made IMHO). That said, the L2000 might suit me in the future and now it's not going to be with LPE for spares, I'll gladly consider it in due course.

The 200 is kind of a modern Firefly, the 2000 a modern GP14. Can't see that there is a massive overlap - certainly not enough to make it difficult to market both.
