This isn't a new Laser product!
This is an idea I've had for sometime, where you take an existing Laser, chuck the rig away, then get a UK based carbon specialist to design & manufacture a one piece carbon mast to the laser mast dimensions, but with a sailtrack & halyard, and better, smoother bend characteristics.  You could you the existing XD kicker etc..
Then get Rooster or A.N.Other to design a sail with similar dimensions to the existing Laser sail, but with a bolt rope and perhaps a full length top batten.
The sail could be made radial cut from a good value, hard wearing material, and could have "b**tard" as the insignia!
If a good number of sailors signed up to this it could probably be done for a similar price to an existing Laser rig.
What would it give you - a boat that would be ready to sail in a fraction of the time to rig a Laser, a more reliable rig, a harder wearing sail, it may even make a slightly nicer boat to sail.
The idea would not be to increase the performance, but to make it easier & quicker to rig, and less susceptable to gear failure.
You could PY race it with a similar handicap to a Laser, or, if the concept took off race against other b**tards, similar to the Rooster 8.1 concept.

Sounds a good idea... For undermining possibly the last bastion of proper club class racing in most places.

But it's your boats, I've no love for Laser and yes a one piece carbon spar would be ideal for those who never move their boat, or never move it on a roof rack... Personally I think a fleet group deal on Morgan training sails would be better way to cut corners without wiping out one design racing.

Or you could buy a Lightning, Solo, Streaker, Phantom, Supernova or a plethora of other classes that have the sensible idea of putting the mast up at a different time to the sail. Odd, though, that combined thay have sold maybe a 10th of the number of boats that the Laser has.

To me the only bad thing about a Laser is rigging it.  Especially for club sailing, ideally with a club sailing boat rigging should consist of removing the cover, pulling the sail up, put the rudder on and off you go.  Not pissing about threading ropes, joining poles together to make a mast, then dragging an expensive sail thru' the dirt..................

There is a fix for that already.

Just set your sail up properly and keep the boat flat.

A decent fix surely shouldn't rely on sailing ability? Especially on here, where the majority of us are muppets?
