In my class, GP14s, I think it would have to be wood.
Not because I harbour a deep seated traditionalism and a love of varnishing, but because you would be hard pushed to find a competitive GRP boat and FRP boats have a good few years to go before they enter that meagre price bracket. I have just bought a boat after a long search for something vaguely competitive I spent £1700 and all that I could find that was worth looking at was wooden. Anyway, wooden boats just look better!

Pleased to hear it. And I think your choice has been wise too...a proper class with proper racing (dad and son trips to Europe?) so no harm done to the ultimate goal....some of the comedy racing classes you were considering had the potential to do more harm than good.
Could see myself in an OK one day.

Especially the one that is now sat out the back!
![]() The boy had a great sail in one this morning, so we went straight down to Weymouth and bought 1915

See, I've always thought they look gorgeous. Tough boats to sail, physically and technically demanding, I loved my old one.

The trouble with OK is that they look horrid, but a couple of years ago I watched a menagerie pursuit race at Glossop in absolute survival conditions. Ist, very, very good Javelin, 2nd, OK, 3rd and 4th, Byte C2......no other finishers but lots of wreckage. The Ok never went in, it stood on its'ear but rolled back up again. Impressive.

That is actually a very good suggestion, particularly as you still have the lasers for a bit of dinghy sailing when you/he want to. |

What could possibly go wrong?

Dart 15 is an absolute blast! I had one and even at only just touching 11 stone I could just about handle it in full 'Sport' mode single-handed (Jib, Main, Trapeze).
I didn't take it class racing, but there looks like a good set of well supported events. They can be picked up fairly cheaply and parts are easy to get hold of - Steve Sawford at SpeedySports is very helpful (The new 'DX' sails look awesome!).
I'd go back to the Dart/Sprint 15 in a heartbeat if I had the chance - and if I wasn't banned from owning more than two boats!
