It means you can now sail them at sunsail clubs in more countries and continents than most of the RS range! ;)

It's good news for the class in so much as it recognises the quick success it has had on the international market.  Hopefully they'll continue go from strength to strength and help grow the category for asymmetric racing around the clubs, regattas and sailing events the 'average punter' is likely to participate in.

Hi all I am considering the RS 100 as my next dinghy, How is the class growing at the moment? I am at the heavier end of the spectrum (110kg) and sail in the north west and would probably move to Leigh and Lowton if I got one as looking at the results a few show up now and then. I have had a phantom and whilst i liked it I get alot of time off in the week and fancy the kite to entertain myself whilst sailing solo.
Now they have been out for a while how is everybody finding it in regards to sail life and usability, event numbers etc.
Any responses greatly appreciated

Hi Andy,
The boats are lasting really well. My boat is now in its 4th season and its still looking great. I still love polishing the carbon deck!!!! Mainsail is original and had alot of use but still fine. Overall apart from the odd ropes and the slot gasket it's needed nought.
I'm up norf and not participating in uk circuit so don't know how numbers are these days buts its a really good all rounder to sail. 
I hope you get one and enjoy it.

and so the fleet splits.... death knell for the 10.2 rig?  

It was always the lesser represented at all the events, I guess now it will ultimately fade off into club handicap racing only?

I see there's a proposed min weight for the 10.2 rig now going into the class rules.  Does that mean that anyone on a 10.2 rig weighing saying 85kg or less can be protested out of a handicap race?

Shame, the 10.2 is the nicer sail, that 8.4 is horrible.

In some ways, free choice of rig size was a USP for the class, to change that after people have bought their boats is a drawback of joining a new class where the rules are not well defined.
OTOH, it may have been a bold experiment that has answered the question whether it was ever a good idea.
Although to look at it a different way, there are plenty of classes where AFAIK, you can race with a smaller sail than the max if you choose.

which you wouldn't be allowed to use anymore... not unless you pig out up to 86kg.
