I'm writing my list for Santa and am concerned that being the old duffer he is, he knows more about wooden toys that technology. So I need to provide specific instructions on which video camera I would like.

I don't skydive or snowboard, so it only needs to work for sailing. I know the GoPro hero is the famous one, but I'm quite tempted by the Sony Action Cam, or even the JVC Adixxion. Anyone tried either of these?

The output is probably all much of a muchness between the different models, the thing that would swing it for me would be that mounting accessories.

Can you get mast/rudder mounting accessories for any them? I was planning on using duck tape...

Toby- I use a Flymount, however you need to be going quicker than Solo speeds if you want the spray to come off the casing.  Embarrassed

I used the Flymount for the overhead shots in this, the supplied surf mounts on the board were fine for the rest of it:

(worth noting that the surf mounts don't work in low temperatures, my go pro took a tumble of my snowboard when I tried using one)

The flymount looks good but is effing expensive for what it is.  A cheaper option would be a Manfrotto super clamp (or a chines rip-off of one) with a tripod adaptor.

No idea on fittings for the other cameras Peaky I'm afraid.  I've used the Manfrotto setup on the rack of my Blaze and the  GoPro helmet mount on the boom and at 1080 they're just about wide enough to keep you in the picture when hiking.

Thanks for that guys. I hadn't even considered mounting arrangements. The Sony Action Cam looks like a pretty dinky alternative to the GoPro, think I might go for that one (please, Santa).

Timmus- do you have the GPS module for yours? If so, have you had any luck in exporting the data from it to anything other than the shoddy OS software?

For those considering buying it: the software isn't needed for data transfer, it shows up as a USB removable storage in Windows.

Drift Ghost HD. http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/drift-hd-ghost?gclid=CKfQlqfI77MCFe_MtAodHCQAUQ

• Remote control ( waterproof with function lights )
• Waterproof (3m - housing available for deep work)
• LCD screen as standard (for immediate footage playback)
• Better colour rendition, (rather than the horrid warm GoPro look)
• Standard photographic screw thread mount (fits on you tripod or other photographic gear)
• Lens is rotatable to allow you to mount it where you can and then turn the lens to the horizon line.
• super slow motion. 11meg stills pics... etc... etc....
• WiFi enabled

I have the Drift HD (previous model) which this updates and It's much better than a GoPro (or others) and the Ghost is even better.

The other thing to think about Peaky is what cameras your friends might be using.  I've borrowed and swapped bits from friends when they're got a mount or something I don't have, plus if you want to comp film together from each others cameras, say your making a promo for you club or something, then all using the same brand might make things easier.
