Just wondering if - now the guys have broken the record - they will continue onwards and upwards

Just think you can all experience speeds close to what Sairocket has just achieved. Just take up Landyachting!

I went faster than Sail Rocket in my car with the boat behind yesterday, too - how is how fast other things go the point? The land yachting equivelent is to try and break their speed record, not what a wheeled vehicle does as a matter of course.

Thanks for posting the video, Mark - great footage.

The guys have just posted a 55.3 Knot average for the Nautical Mile (64kt peak) - so that should be the 500m and the Mile records in one week (subject to ratification)

L'Hydroptere had that didn't she?  Without taking anything away from the achievements of Sailrocket who thoroughly deserve thir success, personally I find L'Hydroptere more exciting to watch. I guess it's down to the size of the thing and the momentum it is carrying.

I'm sure L'Hydroptere will be looking forward to trying to get the mile record back - great to have 2 such different boats going so quick.

I suspect Hydroptere may have trouble. Seems to me that they are hovering at the limits of their brute force solution. By pushing things right into the cavitation region the Sailrocket people have made a very big advance. The record's been in that incipient cavitation region for a long time - since the early 90s really. Getting right through that is a very big deal indeed.

aren't Hydroptere though working on (subject to funding) more boats, in order to circumvent the limits of their venerable craft?

A bit like the sound barrier in aviation perhaps?

The speed performance of land yachts (as Daryl points out) and ice yachts for that matter, demonstrate that it is not so much rig technology holding back performance, but the interface with the water.
Sailrocket seem to have invested a lot of effort in this aspect and now it's beginning to pay dividends.
Very well done, I wouldn't be surprised if they very quickly add another 5 knots! Clap
