YES..much more interesting..is this boat a finished product yet? Is there a class association up and running? Rules? Open circuit? Next Feb this thread will have been going for 3 years...development of the boat presumably some time longer. The boat looked good at the last couple of shows at Ally Pally and in the pics I've seen.....should a kite be added? Hydrofoils perhaps? Anything but fast pins, slolos and rear entry drysuits!

Devoti are currenly building their second batch of productiion Icons of 6 boats .... both batches following the initial UK one.

I think you can safely assume the specification was set some time ago !   This thread is possibly becoming a tad redundant and a more 'closed' forum for owners etc is now being set up.   Devoti are also developing content covering Icon for their website this month I am told so I expect there will be some developments there as well.

During the early development process the Y&Y forum was influential in modifications that eventually made it the boat.... the switch to a slimline non-rotating carbon rig, the first experiments with the dangly pole, the use of vinyl-ester etc can be directly traced back to discussions at various stages here.  We do pay attention !  In fact for the first 18 months we worked with just modified NS hulls with rotating rigs.  This work would not have progressed to the full Icon development at all if the core interest out there,  partly demonstrated by this threads vibrancy, had been weak.

So see on the water again soon .. and maybe at the Draycote Dash again in the near future.

PS - I know it is winter etc and 'cabin fever' may be setting in already with some of you ... so feel free to speculate about spinakers, trapezes and hydrofoils but I would naturally suggest sailing Icon as the antidote.   We might even lend one out to the seriously interested as we have done already ...

And I was very grateful and look forward to the arrival of USA16. We can speculate all we want but nothing written substitutes for the feeling on that silent plane to windward, no drama, no noise, no spray, the dam wall just arrives faster than one usually expects Tongue

I've been to Providence RI on a couple of occasions on business, even visiting a 'Hooters' I think on one notable occasion (a faintly surreal experience in some respects Wink)l .  Never once was 'Babysham' mentioned in isolation or in combination with other liquid refreshments.

So were the locals hiding something from us then ?

Incidentally the 'beer' offered  was only just drinkable when chilled to the point where taste buds were unnecessary ... yeah yeah I know the micro-breweries sprouting up over there are changing things now .. but much of the 'mainstream' liquid, to mis-quote 'Monty Python' should have only only been used for 'hand-to-hand' combat really.

We were probably thrown out due to Babycham abuse. So glad you enjoyed Hooters, not really sure that the quality of the beer was the reason for attending but.........
We came from the Greystone area of the city, it had very large textile mills most now converted to apartments, but interestingly a cricket pitch, a sport i have long avoided.
