Neptune,
Whatever size venue is decided on next year, you'd be very welcome to try an X1 in place of your skiff. I'd hope you'd find it a kind of inland skiff it's so powerful - but you'd need a friend to help you sail it (and who could also do a bit... with a sym spi etc). Chris |

Despite my earlier comment, I actually agree, every time I sail the 14, I feel she is just dying for more space then the 110 acres of Bartley, as it is constantly (pretty much) just tacking a gybing the whole time (especially with the usual wind direction). What I meant, was that it is possible to sail there with a faster boat, but then again, I guess you could say that about any club.

Well, if we go big, I'll bring the 700 if we go small I'll bring the Grad.
I just want to see Graeme beaten by an assortment of wooden bandits! ![]() |

Just discovered you can vote more than once
![]() Probably a bit soon for next year but if it continues to be a success you could could consider taking it 'on tour' for 2014 & visit one of the scottish lochs, plenty will tick all of the boxes except perhaps a bar but you could stock up with duty frees at the border or visit a whisky shop. Travel up wednesday, sail 3 days and return back to the warm air on sunday! Maybe not in October though! |

Agreed- but South Cerney doesn't really have one. They use the RYA list, as do most clubs from what I can tell. Unsurprising on a restricted lake a heavy boat with ample sail area, a sorted jib stick for goosewinging short downwinders and no spinnaker b**locks to get in the way can bang in the chocolates.... You can't fault people for buying appropriate boats for their local sailing conditions, nor really do I believe you should penalise them either. FWIW- I enjoyed the club racing at South Cerney, it wasn't too dissimilar to the FOM- you had your fights with appropriately paced boats. In the 100 I had some great races against both the Albacores and the RS300s there, but the kite was fairly binary, luckily there were some other 100s at the time, so a perfect blend of fleet / handicap racing that didnt have you clock watching like a handicap race on a bigger lake. I honestly can't tell you how it worked out on handicap- it would be sh*te now with sub 1000, but at the time I seem to recall think 1005 was okay with the 10.2 given the on/off performance nature of the boat. I'd be really tempted to take the Solo there too, just a good club all round, but a tad too far with Sunday drivers out for their pub lunches in the Cotswolds.

If the event moves to a larger venue there is no reason why the courses have to use all the lake, You can make the courses any size you want.
However Broxbourne sounds like the ideal venue. -
size good for most forumites,
I assume bacon buttie,s for breakfest,
club willing to extend hours the bar is open,
camping,
easy access,
cost low of entry & travel ( not incluing beer ) for most sailors,
Plus the all important factor ---- willing to hold the event again.
My vote would be for Broxbourne

Till he got cold, Rupertson had a great time at Broxbourne, despite being in a slow boat - he did have various "fast" boats keeping him company for a while, too! What he loved was the on shore stuff, mainly, and seeing all the different classes on the water, where he has only seen them at the dinghy show before. Oh, and the bacon rolls... I felt much the same, apart from about the bacon.
Think we might sail together in the same boat next time, though, especially if we go back to BSC, or to another small venue. Firefly heaven! |

I suggest Burton Sailing Club. Apart from being my local, it's about as central as you can get, not far from the M42/M1/A50/A38 so pretty much bang on the A/B/C split. It's on top of a hill so if there is wind in the area you get it at the reservoir.
Bar, galley, changing rooms, best showers ever, proper club not a commercial centre. Bear it in mind.
