I am convinced that commercial clubs like Rutland, Grafham, Chew, Datchet etc are wrong for the FOM but if the majority want this it's fine with me.  Just tell me who to hand the baton to?  I have to admit that I don't want to be involved in a failed event.

If I'm not fired after that and you want to suggest anywhere please be sure that they meet the criteria - I am not into wild goose chases.

Chew isn't commercial, bt it doesn't have camping. Hollowell looks good to me, but I'd be happy with Broxbourne again. I'd say the racing is secondary to a good atmosphere, which Broxbourne had in spades.

I'd second that Peaky, maybe Hollowell might be a nice change but does Broxbourne deserve a second chance for all of their efforts and hospitality shown for something that came out of the blue and was not a recognised event?

Pitsford would be excellent. I've had some fantastic RS600 & 700 events there. Chunky and the guys always delivery a really friendly event.

South Cerney have PY issues (lots of Albacore sailors who dont believe they should ever be beaten!!!) but they and Whitefriars are in a good geographic position.

I'd suggest that Thornbury could deliver a good event, but the issues with only being able to sail for 1.5hr either side of HW makes sheduling an event difficult.

I'd take my Musto to Pitsford, not sure about the rest/ tiny alternatives though.

South Cerney is far from having PY issues- it uses the numbers as published by the RYA to avoid confrontation, or it did when I sailed there.  I think a lot of clubs do this... and what's the alternative, use the 'personal handicap' algorithm - no thanks-  or appoint someone onto to the committee to make the 'local adjustments' and never have a beer bought for him again?  They do also return there data- which by my reckoning means they're in the top 30% of clubs for managing 'good' PY racing by default.

I think if anyone comes to the FOM and has PY concerns or issues, then they're kind of missing point and will be disappointed by what it offered.

If you want to go to an event and then bleat on about PY afterwards (which I acknowledge I've also been swept up into- ad nauseum in the past) then I'd suggest the Great Lakes series are more suited for you.  They do at least change from the recognised 'norms' of the RYA spreadsheet therefore give you something to really get your teeth and vitriol into.

I voted Broxbourne, and nothing posted so far has made me think that was a poor vote.  In fact with Rodney's confirmation that the bar will stay open a tad later, I'm even more convinced that the winning formula needs repeating, not changing.  To be honest if it does morph into a big lake/PY race, rather than a nice bunch of dinghies with some good sailing crashing around a small course together, then I'd probably think twice about chipping in the brownie points....

if you really are so worried about having it handed to you on a spreadsheet leave the musto at home, take the train and jump in the front of something 'boring and slow'... or take my boat for a race or two, or borrow a Finn (you'd be surprised how nice it is) or put those spinnaker skills to good use and take a D1... or call up RS and see if they'll let you show with a demo Vareo (exposure's good right?).

There's always options....

Not worried about handicap, MikeL et all have handed it to me most of this season. If the lakes too small a fast boat is just cumbersome and not really as much fun as a slow boat.
