Rodney....can't reply to your PM as I'm at work and it won't let me send a reply
![]() But to answer your question.......yes you can wear the leather gimp mask with integral snooker ball gob stopper in salt water environments, not sure it will make you go faster though.....!
Seriously though, I'm pretty sure it does allow camping! I used to live nearby but am now on the North coast of Scotland so I haven't been in a while. I know they built a new 'wing' on their clubhouse and its set in some woodland so I'm sure they would let you camp.

See the little black dot at the top of your map just above the North coast of Scotland?....I'm about 6mm to the South East of that.....we have a 3 mile beach that never has more than 20 people on it, F6+ for probably 4 months of the year, pretty much 24 hours daylight in the summer, no clubhouse but a pub! If you want to go old school.................!

I can only re-iterate that the event worked so well because of the people's attitude when they turned up.
I'm not sure it's possible to convey without that patronising sound byte of 'you had to be there' to appreciate it, but sadly that's the truth and I'm struggling to find a better way to illustrate it. I think in part, the light wind and compact racing made it possible to race properly- line to line, with lots of fun in between. It would be a shame for the event to morph into a.n.other big lake handicap regatta. There's enough of them already and whilst they can be fun, they can also have a lot of b**locks thrown out of them afterwards. Whatever magic Rodney's got, it worked, it worked well and Broxbourne delivered. If you want the same 'up north'- then maybe West Riding SC or Elton SC. If you want it in the proper Midlands, then I guess one of the Brummy lakes (but who wants to travel to Birmingham... bad enough to go there for conferences on an expense account during the week). If you want bucolic, easy access and nice club houses then the Cotswolds Water Parks clubs are excellent. Other than that, I reckon Broxbourne was the one of the best M25 venues we could have had that was still north-ish. Weirwood, Island Barn etc are definitely too 'south'.

Burghfield suffers badly from weed at the latter end of the year and despite the promises the previous weekend that it had all gone there were times it was like the sargasso. That said it is probably the right size, and just big enough without being too big.
The problem is that it ain't far enough north to let the northerners join in easily. I like the sound of the Midlands and there are a lot of course in the region of various sizes. If I wasn't doing this on my phone I'd have a look at all of them. |

Broxbourne was very cool - don't know well it could have coped with more boats though? Grafham sounds all a bit serious and boring, and similar to many other events. What about somewhere like Oxford?

Whats wrong with everyone - now you want concensus out of 'forumites' or wot - the weekend 'love-in' gone to your heads now ... ?
Not that I sport one on Icon myself (or Blaze come to that) but the asymetrics were barely getting around / going at Broxbourne (now just maybe that is a 'good' thing) ... But I think Inland is more suitable to ensure we get fast turnarounds and being able to see the racing from the clubhouse is good as well I'd volunteer Burghfield if they would have us .. as a reasonable compromise of size, location, access, camping and bar facilities but who says they would have us !? They barely put up with me and Andy 'the dancing farmer' as it is ... so I'll leave that one to Rodney / Mark to ponder over and make any approaches. It would be good to rotate around several suitable locations ovet time anyway. Mike L. (Blaze720) Edited by blaze720 - 16 Oct 12 at 11:36am |
