TR if you can drive the Finn, you'll get there with the Teccy aspects of the Icon, the Finn required technique and so it'll just be learning new tricks ..... well that's what I'm telling myself! I would imagine it will be a case of coming off for speed to get the boat planing upwind and then taking height and playing that trick all the way up the beat in the right conditions. Just remember to sandbag every third race to keep the handicap right!

Now what about this forumites thing ..... I'm guessing first 9 places will be shared between Icon, Finn and D-one, and of course Icon will win. Can I put money on this? Big smile

No pressure there then! You are right about technique, old dogs and new tricks comes to mind, but we are having so much fun, it is like skiing, almost more fun learning than being able to do it well. I guess I'm lucky that Lesley has me on a diet to get match fit as well, interestingly it didn't start until she had drunk your wine Smile Are you coming down for another go before yours arrives? Always welcome.

The Saturday will be won by a Minisail, of course! On the water, at that... We will only do the one day, to allow someone else a chance.

Actually, really looking forward to seeing how slow a 1959 designed beach boat is on the water compared to a modern singlehander, or even an older but much tweaked Olympic class. Someone buy me a beer whilst waiting for me to finish, please!

The Minisail always reminds me of girls and being a lot younger, both were on a beach in Scotland, I had fun with both Wink

Back on thread, or else we could end up being rude to the forumites regatta host, and he's a sensitive soul (no! really he is!)
TR I'll not come for another sail, unless I'm passing,as the jobs done and the boat is on order. We're now working hard to get an old Finn sailor down to upwind planing weight and an ex SB3 helmsman smart enough to understand the sport of proper sailing! It's goingto be a long uphill struggle! (I hope the Icon is foregiving as well as fast)

Plus one of the D One sailers is currently walking to the event! Not sure if I've set off early enough...

The rate that the rain is hammering down you'll probably be able to two sail all the way there  LOL
