I have to echo some other users comments.  To me the Endevour has always been the Pinnacle of amature British sailing.  However over the last few years there seems to be a 'My train set mentality' There are some fairly glaring omissions from that list, be it by lack of invite or lack of acceptance.  If its lack of acceptance then to me that speaks volumes.

For me i think its time to start offering qualifier events for classes that have less then say 50 entries.  In the form of a knock out to decide say 15 of the 25 places.

They do indeed. The 60th anniversary nationals was held at Brixham in August. It was hard fought and won by Dick Garry. Former champion Mike Macnamara took part but didnt seem to find the groove and finished 9th I think.
34 boats took part of which four came from Poland making it a Europeans as well.
Two very old boats both 59 years old also took part. K140 was jack Holts own boat built for the RTI dinghy race.

I'm not sure why all the negative comments about this event?
I've been lucky enough to race twice in the this event 2006 & 07 and it was a fantastic run event and I've never sailed against such good competition.  I would also be going this year if I didn't have other commitments. We got 40 boats at our nationals (British Moth)
I've found the way to get an entry is to contact the RCYC after you have won your nationals. I think they ask all the main classes but not everyone can attend. The entries are limited as Topper provide a certain number of boats. It should go to classes with the largest entries but this has not always been the case when Int 14 sailors have sailed or B14 class when only getting 25 entries at their nationals.

If you look at past winners, it does seem to attract good teams, I'd love to go and watch it, unlikely it would be a spectator type event, took the bread knife to Wilsonian in the hope we'd watch something and of course they just disappear up the river not to be seen until the return, it's not exactly a spectator sport which is a shame, you learn such a lot watching good guys(&girls) in any activity.

It does seem strange that the RS400 lot are missing then again lots of strange things happen in dinghy world.

It's perhaps a problem that the RS400 National Champion is sailing as the Enterprise banner this year?

Oh, why would you do that? Self Esteem issues? LOL

Or is there something more malevolent going on? Wink

GRF, they sail on the crouch, pretty much anywhere along the north shore will give you a good vantage point. if it doesnt conflict with my sailing i try to get down there to have a watch, usually sail past them doing big boat stuff.

Yes I know the Corinthian, sailed the Icicle one year when they were trying to asses the relative performance of One Design sailboards against dinghies, with the inevitable embarrassing outcome for them, funny I found the trophy clearing out the loft on Sunday and a pile of dinghy magazines in which I was being pilloried for an article I'd written on aggression and flaunting of rules, by one Gerald Sambrook Sturgess whoever he was.. a lifetime ago..
