Lovely! Must be great at Lyme.
Russ, you need to get out of 505/Merlin "string for everything" thinking! That is not what the icon is about - it is simple, light, efficient. Between the dangly pole and adjustable (off the water) tack height, you get plenty of leech control. It's not necessary, but the jib track pads are big enough to fit the tracks longitudinally rather than transversely if you want to spec it that way (subject to class rules allowing it). When do you get yours TR? Will it be white, or a jazzy central European colour scheme? |

The jib leech doesn't look to open to me. Main well off center line and slightly twisted, jib to match? Ian

Agreed Ruscoe, and this was noticed by others at
the time although I think the jib is eased a bit too much at this point anyway, as suggested by the baggy luff.
A little bit more sheet tension closes the leech considerably. In any event, the jib sheets lead to a ratchet
block on a track aligned fore and aft so there is plenty of scope to adjust
foot and leech tension. And yes, it is great fun in the lumps! Photo

Possibly Ian. In those conditions the way I would be sailing it today (that photo was in June) would be with the jib in slightly and the main eased a bit further. The boat would be flatter and it then just seems to power through the waves. Very satisfying.

Not sure i agree with you Ian, I thought Jib looked too open and the main was fairly close to center line. Perhaps ts difficult to tell.
Toby, its not my 505 head mate, having an adjustable jib sheeting position is IMO critical, not sure what good a dangly pole is upwind? Still im not Trolling, the Icon looks like a damn fine ship, how does she cope with the Lyme waves?

I know your not trolling Russ. It's just the way you look.
![]() It looks a few degress off close hauled to me (?), so pole v. useful. |

Thats the answer i was looking for, great stuff. I couldnt remember from the dinghy show how the Jib was sheeted Hence my questions as to Jib sheeting arrangement. But simple track system is great, why over complicate, especially as its a OD.

That rig looks very powerful! Have you sailed against the Merlins at Lyme? Couple of good ones there I think! |
