Ok so an iCon with covers & combi must be circa £10k ... thank you.

All of a sudden the Alto, at about the same price, starts to look like very very good value.  The latest ones look very trick.

Atrocity.

£10k doesn't seem too bad for an Epoxy two man boat.

It varies hugely, but in some of the numerically smaller development classes its way over 50% of recent boats.

If you add all the 'one or two opens a year' folks, with all the kids sailing in their designated youth class and the (you can't deny if even if you wanted to) popularity of the Laser, I'd say quite a few sailors still cherish class racing, either at local, national and international level.

Ah .. the wiff of a full blown fishing expedition !

Come on guys give us a chance !  Any boat is poor value at any price if 1) you simply don't 'get' it or 2) you are not really interested anyway. 3) totally and hopelessly devoted to class 'x' already (just like life-long supporting xxxxx F.C. )

It is public knowledge we sold a number at £ 8k with North Sails, full carbon rig, cover and trolley a while back.  You might think that is still poor if you were not attracted to soemthing like Icon at the time.   So if you are perhaps now warming to the idea  just wait a while and see the Devoti Icon pricing .... we will still be offering excellent value but not the cheapest 2 man possible out there.  We/they do not believe creating a bubble of instant demand by 'crash' discounting.  It produces losses all too easily that can quickly weaken the supplier (= a worry for the customer)   ... and sometimes a  slump in used boat prices (= another real worry for owners .. you might get stuck with 'it' if 'x'  is not for you long term).  The 'first three' offer is however based on sound business reasoning and will still feature when the new pricing is released by Devoti - the discount levels are attractive but sustainable.   We are going after group purchasing and fleet development as part of the overall strategy.

But you have got to want one first ... so really why not try one ?  Yeah I'm in the business so should say this stuff anyway but as an occasional  racer myself ... yes  seriously ... it is gorgeous anyway !

Mike L.   (will try and duck away now ... all this forum stuff is ... er well I better go sailing)

Particularly if you add in all the handicap races where many of the participants mostly care about their result relative to their own class. A PY race with no other RS400's is rarely the real deal to me.
How we do against 600's or whatever is much less important.
But I think some people specifically don't want that. They are happier sailing in a race in a boat that sets them apart as individuals and may not be terribly keen on comparing their performance with others. I'm fine with that, it's their choice and both my clubs would be weaker without such people.

very true- nothing wrong with that of course, it's just a different way to enjoy your time on the water and if a spreadsheet gives some meaning to it, then fair enough, who are we, or anyone, to judge?

£8k is a bargain for an epoxy boat with a carbon rig. Hope it establishes a fleet.

8-10k sounds great when you consider a new Grad is over £7k now with all the trimmings, and I imagine there will be plenty of people stepping up from the likes of Grads who dont want an Ent!
