so, that was all a bit disappointing - so close but so far.

Should our girls have let the Russian lead around the top mark?  Or was there another tactic they could have tried?

Protest was due to be heard at 18.00 but no result posted by ISAF yet, it's Rule C10 against Race Committee which I think is to do with scoring.

Description:
Facts found:
The hearing of the request for redress was held under C6. RUS was invited to the hearing and was allowed to make submissions.

GBR produced video and photographic evidence. The video was shot at an angle below the actual finishing line, and a photo that was taken from an angle that does not allow an accurate sighting of the line.
GBR and RUS were approaching the finishing line on port tack with GBR overlapped to windward of RUS. Both boats bore away just before the finishing line. The spinnaker of RUS collapsed and the spinnaker of GBR was partially collapsed. The finish was very close.
The line was sighted by two race officers.
The bow of RUS was the first part of the two boats to cross the finishing line.
The Race Committee scored RUS as winner.
Conclusion:
The Race Committee made no error.

In the very last race for the GBR team, they led around the top mark in light & puffy conditions and went for a crash gybe-set whilst the Russians went for a smooth bear-away set and glided into a 4 boat-length lead - held to the finish. That was the game-over moment not the contentious finish in the race before
