The problem is that you've got multiple wire diameters (most rigs do) and the way they work means that the reading varies with diameter.

He only needs to write down 3 numbers once he is set up - i reckon the Loos gauge is perfect for that.  Not sure why it should be more complicated.

The tables are down below - you have 3mm wire so use the readings for 1/8" wire.

Do not load your 600 up to 30 on the loose gauge! Never...never ever!

For your diamonds - they are thinner use the 3/32 settings - set them to something like 7.

For your shrouds and at your weight go with:
Light winds (non Trapezing) - 15
Medium winds - 18
Strong winds - 20

Job done - get used to how the rigging feels the settings are not that critical, trapezing in normal medium winds the windward shroud should start to get a little slack.

If you over tighten the diamonds you get a very stiff (sideways) mast that gives a binary power delivery in changing/ gusting conditions (all on, all off).

If you over tighten the rig in light winds you'll struggle to square the boom.

How's that?  Does that help?

That does help, Thanks :)

Only thing I'm not sure about is on the scale on the front label for 18 it says is 90kgs for 3mm wire, but on the table at the bottom of the website you posted it says its 180lbs. If 1kg = 2.2lbs roughly that makes 198lbs not 180lbs. Am I making sence?

Its close enough!

Back in the day when I had my 600 the diamonds were tensioned such that when you squeezed them together with your thumb and forefinger you got a couple of mm movement. And for the forestay tension when it was windy you pulled it on as hard as you could.

Never had problems with the boom squaring off as rotating the boom out to the shrouds doesn't induce much additional tension due to the positioning of the attachment point.
I think in recent years the fashion conscious youth have created their own setup ideas for the 600 which are different to what we used to use 12 yrs ago, I mean we used to use the mainsheet cleat!!!!!

Thanks for the help guys, think I'll stick with the loos gauge now. I bought it on ebay and sent it to the factory in the states to have new labels put on and have it recalibrated. The diamond wire reads 12 on the gauge which is about 100lbs on 3mm wire, and the wire is thinner, so I'm wondering if I should leave it or losen it? It doesant feel that tight though. Any suggestions?
