Thankfully I can't find a picture of the ones Mike had with his previous Phantom, multicoloured and totally unreadable at a distance...

I see that the Moths specify blue, black or red only.

That was as a result of a problem at the 2010 Worlds.  White numbers on carbon laminate sails.  Particularly in some late afternoon sun conditions with reflection off the laminate, completely unreadable, particularly with moths doing 25kts across the finishing line.

In other sun conditions, with sun behind the sails, as illustrated with the Phantom Green numbers, the 'correct', forward facing number was unreadable, but the mirror image projecting through the sail was clear as day.

There was also a boat with some quite 'stylized' numbers which were hard to read.

Black and Dark blue seemed to work just fine.  Red, as I recall was a bit difficult to read in the distance, but was quite clear up close.

The pink does stand out clearly against the black cloth.  Not sure about mikes yellow.  But the sail was measured with the yellow numbers!??  So where do yo stand i guess.

Pierre, absolutely mate.  They are!  I heard they even share towels post showers!  But both fairly big lads so i wouldnt say it to their faces. he he

Sharing towels after showering their posts...
It's almost as disgusting as those sail numbers.

In fairness, they are very brave soldiers sailing with
sail numbers like that in public.

The race committee should not record the unreadable numbers at te finish and let the competitors request redress! Then let them explain how a sail number that is easily readable complies with the requirement through no  fault of their own"!

Well if they can't read them they won't record them! Not that they shouldn't if they can then try should if they can't then don't ! Both sails were measured with the number sets on as I understand so who is at fault ?
