So I bought a loos gauge, started clipping it on to my rigging looking like I know what I'm doing and it dawned on me that I don't lol. It doesant seem to say what the numbers that it reads represent. One column on the graph says scale the other two just seem to have random numbers in. It could be in bananna units for all I know. Anyone know how I can derive lbs from these numbers?

Which one do you have? They all have different scales.  To help it would be useful to know the model number really.  Do you have a tuning guide for your boat? Often they specify a particular model and give the numbers in "loos scale" rather than kgs or lbs...

I have the PT-1M and the tuning guide I downloaded for my RS is in Pounds.

the "loos scale" is because having specific forces would be meaningless- the reading represent different forces depending on the diameter of the wire

Your Loos gauge has calibrated values for different diameter wires from 2.5mm to 4mm. So middle column is the one you want for the 600.

Thread the gauge over the wire so that your shroud is between the two nylon cotton reels, then pull the string until the slider at the top hooks around the shroud. If you read off the value which will be something along the likes of 30 on the gauge you can then work from there. The values ie. 28, 30, 32 are effectively % of breaking strength for a wire of that diameter. There is also a figure given (in smaller text) with kgs. 1kg is equivalent to 2.2Ibs.

From memory 400Ibs works out as about 27 on a Loos gauge for 3mm wire.

Thanks for the reply but OMG! I was hoping for a simple to use guage that just reads in pounds that you dont need a degree in mathmatics to make use of, like a tape measure. Is there such a guage? If so Ill sell this and obtain one. 
 
I am trying to adjust my diamond wire tention first, then the rigging. It doesant seem that tight and the tuning guide says between 30 pounds for a 10 stone sailor and 100 pounds for a 15 stone sailor. It reads 12 on my guage. I am about 13.5 stone so i was going to set it to about 80-85 pounds.
 
Regarding the rigging, it says around 100 pounds for light conditions, 150-200 for mediam and over 200 for strong. Would this be measured at the shrouds or the forestay? Thanks again for the help

The tables are down below - you have 3mm wire so use the readings for 1/8" wire.

Do not load your 600 up to 30 on the loose gauge! Never...never ever!

For your diamonds - they are thinner use the 3/32 settings - set them to something like 7.

For your shrouds and at your weight go with:
Light winds (non Trapezing) - 15
Medium winds - 18
Strong winds - 20

Job done - get used to how the rigging feels the settings are not that critical, trapezing in normal medium winds the windward shroud should start to get a little slack.

If you over tighten the diamonds you get a very stiff (sideways) mast that gives a binary power delivery in changing/ gusting conditions (all on, all off).

If you over tighten the rig in light winds you'll struggle to square the boom.
