This is why people should stop moaning about old boats being in the Olympics.  A old giant of a boat sailed by brilliantly by giants among sailors is far more fascinating to watch, in my opinion, than ultra-light speed machines sailed by oh so cool sailing porn stars.

True, I am jealous of those who sail both, but some of these 'old' boats embody, for me, the Olympics far more than some of the more modern alternatives.

Well said. Some of my club-mates, who are very capable sailors, are racing at the Gold Cup in Falmouth and being handed a sailing lesson (20 minutes in an hour's race) by the top guys in this fleet. There is much to admire and respect about these boats and the sailors at this level.

got bored trying to edit it so thought a short version and fiddle with the colours (which when viewed in HD is pretty cool) was better option...plus drop in a decent track and voila  Smile

Unnecessarily lengthy video but fast forward to 7 minutes for Laser downwind in 32knots, with water spouts through the centreboard case, etc.

always dissconcerting (if that's how you spell it) to see how much lateral movement there is on a Laser daggerboard when it's not fully down... and you can't tell!

good effort though

Every now and again you get you get a day so perfect it makes you feel almost guilty for being out whilst others are missing out. This Saturday, at Hayling, was one of those days. It certainly set a new standard for me in club sailing perfection.

Short video below just to display how fantastic it was.

Anyone else get some glamour shots from the weekend just gone?

Nice.  Yes, fantastic day yesterday - the only way to improve on it would have been not to have to go to work today!

If only I had a GoPro, I would have caught some awesome footage from the Thornbury SC Beachley Race on Sunday.

Epic race to Channel Marker just off of Beachley Slip under the old Severn Bridge, and back. A 2.5 mile windward leeward race in 15kts and perfect sunshine.
