Given that I only owned it for 3 months no I didn't ! Apart from the replacement sail and mast but I count these as running cost ! I would expect a 4k boat to be worth 3k in two years given its age?! What was the point you were trying to make? |

Just seen the new blogs. You said you have interest from butley boats builder. How much does it cost to have one built by a boat builder without having to make anything yourself.

You would have to look into doing it as an extended project- I was told it is probably best to do it outside of an extended project- instead I am doing a talk on sponsorship within sailing.
But, I would still really recommend building one, as I've only just started but can't wait to get back into the workshop! it is great.

Having got an A in extended project myself a few years ago my best tip would be do it on something that none of your teachers know anything about. I did mine on designing sails for RC yachts, rattled on about camber and draft and just referenced a load of books and online documents. The easiest 60 UCAS points I got! Because I did actually make some sails, lots in fact, I only had to write a very short report. I would say that a whole boat would be a good project if you can be sure that you will finish it in time. Perhaps build your own foils and write about that element of it instead. There is a lot of info out there about NACA sections that will baffle most teachers at colleges. Mentioning Reynolds numbers etc would really throw them and you would be sure of a good mark.
PS. I did it back in the day where you couldn't get A*s in your A levels, I think my actual mark was 94% off memory, although I think it was just a random number plucked from thin air because my tutor really glazed over whenever I went to see him! |

Those are the AUTOCAD files cut- basically all the materials inc epoxy and laser cutting to build a hull cost around £700.
