Does that mean that ISAF will exonerate themselves from any irresponsible permissions or actions from press or media boats? Ben was out of order and he knows it but also ISAF were wrong and my guess is that they don't know it, arrogance?

IMHO ISAF, or their appointed official representatives, should not be above or outside the rules. Certainly they should never allow themselves to be in a position to have an effect on the outcome of any race.

ISAF Executive Statement

The ISAF Executive Committee has met to consider the reports from the International Jury of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships and the RYA Tribunal. The role of ISAF under Racing Rule of Sailing 69.2(a) is to first determine whether or not it is appropriate to conduct a further hearing into the reports received.
The Executive Committee has reviewed the decisions of the International Jury and the RYA Tribunal, the video evidence of the incident, other relevant documentation from Perth and has taken legal advice. Mr Ainslie was asked to comment and did so.
The Executive Committee supports the decision and the report of the International Jury and the report of the RYA Tribunal that found that Mr Ainslie committed Gross Misconduct and believes that the penalties imposed to date are appropriate. Accordingly, ISAF does not regard it as appropriate to conduct a further hearing into the incident and no further action will therefore be taken.

The issue of Media Boats is a separate matter from the decision issued today. The ISAF Media policies were clear and the issue of adherence will be considered separately.

Reckon he can consider himself bloody lucky...

Unlikely that they will do anything insane given that both national authorities are 'happy' with the current status of things....

Interesting that in the photograph of the press boat the crew do not seem to be wearing bouyancy aids.

So we all now know what most people would have suspected for a while.

No further action against Ben and recommendations to the ISAF in the official report about conduct/management of media boats during events.

Makes a change for common sense to be showed by a National Authority, and, by that I mean in any sport, not just sailing!!

Well done RYA, for being sensible, honest, and fair... What happened to Ben, is no different to the taunting that some footballers get from the crowd, and the footballers react as well (Remember Cantona?).

So, with the exemption of Ben not winning the worlds, he's still in the five ring circus, alls well that ends well....

Although, to put the boot on the other foot, there was no way on earth that the RYA, would kick the star player out of the Olympics, they have too much to loose. I wonder how much politics guided the tribunal.

Although, if my racing had been impeded, in the same way that Bens was, I probably would have reacted in a worse manner, I would not have just spoken to them, but they would probably have a nice shiner each!!!!

Now, does this set a precedent?? If we are impeded by press/photo/coach boats, will we be able to board and remonstrate with them, or claim redress??? Let's hope in the next rules update that we are able to claim redress for these sort of interferences. If race press/photo/coach boats were briefed before events that any interference with boats racing would mean a ban from the race course, and having the authority to do it may help.

Can the SI's specify on standards of conduct of press/photo/coach boats?? Not sure, but could, possibly be stated in the NOR?

I think that's a clear message to the ISAF.

Crystal clear, one would hope
