Not according to the class chief measurer they're not... When asked directly, the answer given was that the rules talk about the kite pole in the singular while other components are described in either both or plural.

When twin poles were used some years ago it was a matter of fashion, and I assume no-one looked at the rules.

Whether we would if they were allowed is a different question, but given their relative lack of length compared to (e.g.) a Hornet,  they're not really needed. When (if) carbon poles are allowed the question might arise again...

I stand corrected, Tim Rush mentioned he had recommended them to a Fireball crew, and i assumed he would know what he was talking about.  Perhaps he had not checked. Not sure i understand the length bit though Nick?

Does anyone know who the event photographers were at the Grafham Grand Prix?  I saw plenty of people out there with some beefy equipment taking shots.

On another less vanity based note.... My version of the GGP.

This was a big testing and learning day for me.  Relatively new to the boat (never helmed a symmetric kite boat before getting the scorp a few weeks ago) and I had a crew that had never really used a symmetric kite (though he is a great person to have in the front of a boat).  Also an untested square top Jib that I had put up for the 1st time.
I like that it's two races, means no chance for a cock-up but sadly we were unable to finish the second race.
I think it was blindingly obvious that neither me nor my crew were that slick with the kite as every reach and run we were hemorrhaging places left right and centre, then desperately trying to claw back what we could on the upwind legs.

I think I would have liked it more if we were racing all the boats (or at least a larger proportion) rather than just the ones in the slow handicap.  I kind of want the big winter handicap events to be a little bit ridiculous.
The Bloody Mary a perfect example, everything from toppers all the way to foiling moths on one race course, love it!
The Grafham Grand Prix seems to have made the Slow handicap fleet.....fair.  It had the right group of boats that would be able to compete fairly against each other which is, I guess, the opposite of what I want out of a handicap event.

Overall, I was happy to be there and glad I went.  Hopefully I'll be able to make it again next time.

Yes - well put Doug.  I thought the gratuitous square top looked very bling - who cares how fast it was (that was me in the 2K with Emma).

He will soon be joining our ranks anyway Roger - surely the V Twin is the only boat ever to go straight from inception to obscurity, thus making it a clear candidate for membership of the Lost Classes?
