Happy Christmas everybody!

For those of you who are browsing the web between courses of turkey, here a full sneak-preview what we're launching 1st January - http://dotnet.yachtsandyachting.com/

As you'll probably tell, some sections are brand-new and some are exactly the same as the old site with a new menu at the top. The Clubs and Classifieds sections will come up with a message about the Google Maps API Key not being correct - this will correct itself once we move the site to the www.yachtsandyachting.com domain name.

The new site does not work on IE6 and only sometimes works on IE7 (depending on setup). It's fine on all other browsers that I've checked it with. At switchover time we will be making the old site available at old.yachtsandyachting.com for those who are stuck with old versions of browsers and those who prefer the old version.

Please post here or email me if you find any problems and keep giving me your feedback - positive and negative!

I hope you all have a great Christmas!

Cheers, Mark

Personally I dont like having the big picture on the front screen, when I am having a sneeky browse at work I prefer more text heavy homepages so it doesnt look from a distance like completely un-work related website. Having a big picture of a boat on the home page means people from a distance know damn well what I am doing! I think I will be sticking with the old version!

Well quite. IE6 users will be corporate (especially NHS and other government). No choice about updates. users of other browsers will likley be homne users who are more likley to just approve ay and all updates that get fed their way.

Web developers throughout the world celebrated that news. The problem will still be there for corporate networks where the automatic updates are switched off and done manually throughout the system in a batch.

Anyone stuck on IE6 needs to gve their Co IT a good kick up the rear end!

I appreciate some company intranets have issues on other flavours of IE other than 6 but even the public sector are starting to get away from 6 now.

I seem to recall there have been no updates for IE6 for around 18 motnsh to 2 years......

We've realised this is a real problem for some people. For that very reason, the full old version of the current (soon old) site will be available at a special URL (probably old.yachtsandyachting.com) for users of IE6 and IE7.

The site sometimes works on IE7 and sometimes doesn't, depending on the setup. IE6 stands no chance. Old versions of other browsers seem to be fine, but our stats show that most Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera users keep their browsers up-to-date so that is far less of a theoretical problem.
