Nice to see they got that in;
"The Tribunal also recognised that there was an apparent lack of active management of media boats at this and previous events leading to repeated infringements of the provisions of the event media boat guidelines. In addition, formal rights of redress against official boats were not available to competitors."
I think that's a clear message to the ISAF.

common sense has prevailed, thank god for that.
I had a horrible feeling we were going to be stupid like we did when withdrawing from Moscow over invading Afghanistan (why didnt that happen when we invaded).
The rest of the countries would have loved it if we had thrown Ben out, but to be fair on Giles he would probably still win gold.
Regards

RYA Tribunal to examine incident in Perth
Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championship incident referred to the RYA Tribunal.

Gus Lewis RYA Head of Legal and Government Affairs has advised that: "The RYA has received and considered the report regarding the incident which took place at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships involving British sailor Ben Ainslie from the International Jury at the event.

On the face of it, the report identified a case to answer that might warrant further action. The RYA has therefore referred the matter to the RYA Tribunal in accordance with its established procedures for further consideration. A hearing is likely to take place in the next two months".

In accordance with established procedures the RYA can make no further comment on this matter until the RYA Tribunal has reached its conclusions.

In athletics an athlete may submit a protest (within a fairly tight time limit) and that protest will be heard by a protest committee.  The time limit is there so the competitor can either continue the competition, or the competition be reheld.  In field events the athlete is usually allowed another trial, then the event reviewed afterwards, so the competition can continue.
the same, but different...

Still believe that if you put apprentice IJ/IUs at the wheel of the camera boats you would go a long way to solving the problem - because:

1 they are trained in close quarter work - the norm when umpiring is that you are as far from the boats as they are themselves

2 if they get it wrong they can kiss goodbye to their career as international race officials

Gordon

PS Can I volunteer to drive a camera boat i Weymouth!
