I thought the rogue skiff was meant to be a class in concept? It seemed like a good idea bringing people together in outdated development boats to a sort of level rating (or handicap) class. In fact i think that should be done to save all the really nice but left to rot boats that are all over the place.  Boats that are sort of 3-10 years out of date in their class could come together and race against other boats of similar age.  Anything from old I14s and cherubs to merlins and N12s.  Probably needs a new thread really!

Back on topic with the icon, now much does a new one cost if you were to have a ready to race boat with a launching trolley and top and bottom covers and foil bags?

The website has an introductory offer of £7995 including sails, cover and trolley. I don't have a foil bag but the bottom cover is a very nicely fitting Rain and Sun one, can't remember the price I'm afraid.

how much of any of these threads is actually 'about' the boats they are supposedly started to discuss? reality is, it's reasonable fun, and most of it taken in good humour.  Much better than coming up with another angle to have a dig at the Laser at any rate*

Hi Laser193713

Main pricing can be found at  www.cirrusrace.com  -  You can pull up a PDF datasheet as well from that link.   For additional undercover and foil bag ?  Assume same as for Blaze/Halo.   The boat is complete with full carbon rig  (inc mast by Aardspars - your choice in 'carbon' or 'white' as no cost option), sails, dangly pole system installed and set up ready to go.  Fit out is mix of Harken/Allen.

Even if you are not likely to ever get an Icon for real you are still welcome to 'have a go' -  just ask.

If the price quoted includes a trolley, can it be car topped then? would have thought the mast would be a bit long....

I have roof topped the mast, but you'll want a trailer for normal transport. But many people already have one (the trolley fits a standard 275 roadbase) which is probably why the option is to buy without one.

I am sure that excluding a trailer is just a standard marketing ploy commonly used in the industry to keep the headline price low.

Can't think that the Icon hull mast combo would sit that comfortably on top of the average modern eurobox.

.... standard marketing ploy commonly used in the industry to keep the headline price low.

If you want a combi base ... well you can always haggle !!  We know that approx 50% of Blaze owners do not take a combi base, presumably because they have another boat of some description and have one already or they share access to one ... it is therefore seemed not unreasonable to assume it is a variable option for many.    Some will also want a combi with 10" wheels over 8" ones etc etc.   There are even those with double and triple loaders but the one 'package' combination that 99% or prosepective owners need/want is complete boat+trolley+cover.   Hence the offer.

Car Top ?  It has been done but I'd not recommend it unless you have a large vehicle roof.  The weight would be OK I guess but Icon is a long and moderately wide boat.

Is it a cynical ploy by the marketing types to leave out a combi ?   We are likely to be little different to the larger competitors on this one.  I assume any of our customers can work out what they need/want, for most of us the decision to purchase any racing boat is something that we will always torture ourselves over !     It is not an insignificant decision so I don't think anyone would be deluded for very long - if at all.

Further on this issue I suppose we could have been a bit more 'commerical' or is that cynical and put a standard alloy rig on Icon.  There are boats for which that really would be the right decision but the Icon concept was to offer a very light, simple, highly specified but cost-effective alternative that offered truly sparkling performance.  Alloy rigs would have worked, the boat price could have been significantly lower but if we had gone that way would it have been construed as some sort of ploy ?.   Our target customers really do tend to know their stuff and I think we interpreted what they wanted - they told us directly and on this forum in the early days.

I think we got there but I would say that .... you will have to make up your own minds.

BTW might have an Icon at Lymington Town on Sunday if wind looks OK so if anyone local wants to have a look/ chat  we might be there - Charity race of some description there apparently and no 'Draycote Dash' for a while plus BSC is having another attack of weed at present ... ruddy stuff !

It definitely looks like a nice boat, dont think i am really in the market at the moment though.  What sort of crew weight has been decided to be fast so far?

OT- Rogue Skiff was a concept, not a class... no need for anyone else to get involved unless they wanted to. No handicaps, no complex ISAF rules, no class rules, no concerns about whether it was a 'skiff' or not either

Good concept, wrong platform... my error for still thinking like a dinghy sailor and being 'worried' about butchering a SMOD as opposed to converting a boat from a more 'free spirited' class.

ANyway, hijack over... Icon, more photos of singlehanded sailing please Mike... looks like it has potential as a Daddy and Little Princess boat and still be sailable when little princess finds it too cold/windy/in the way of parties or other equally fun stuff.
