I think it's a cracking boat too (no pun intended!), wish I'd had longer in it.

I would also update the class website, which seems to have been stagnant for a while.

I mean all this constructively as someone who is in the marketing industry. It is difficult times and you just cannot afford to miss opportunities like this.

Really?  The Y&Y RCR isn't as relevant as it once was, just like the classified section IMO... this thing call the internet has come along and done 'em in....I like the re-vamp of the events reports section in the print mag, but half the time I scim read because i've already read about the events on this site that interest me (although I'll admit to reading at least some of reports printed next to good photo's).

ps.  I really like the Icon and I really don't like the current economic climate, which is stopping me from having a test sail and thinking seriously about buying one.

I'll also admit to liking Ent's, N12's, Tasar's and even enjoyed sailing a Firefly a couple of times... the great pleasures of two-handed, two-sailed, dinghies are much under-rated in the current era of bow-up-must-have-an-assymetric-or-it's-boring "thinking"

Yes really. I came into dinghy sailing later in life and there is nowhere on the internet where you can get a sense of what boats are out there and roughly what their purpose is. It the way to check you haven't missed any obvious candidates in your next boat.

I missed a trick not getting icon into the Y&Y RCR this year, and badly need to update the website (now, what's the password?). I guess I've been too busy sailing! But next season looks good, so there should be plenty to report. Do feel free to come for a sail anytime Getafix (and anyone else). I think what is hard to tell from just looking at pictures is that it is not just a good two sail boat, but a good hiking boat full stop. And the more people who experience that for themselves and spread the word, the better!

As to the uncertainty about whether it was a class in 2011, I guess you could say that makes it more Schrodinger's cat than dead cat!

Surely a class can only exist if two boats have raced against each other. Until that is achieved the concept is a whim not a class.

Said I was not going to bother for a while but ...

Giraffe -  Just ask and you can try out the 'whim' anytime at the club most weekends ....   my one will remain there until Christmas probably.   We had hoped to have up to 3 production Icons at the Dash this weekend until the rain gods failed in their seasonal duties btw !

Well said.  Racing dinghies is a tactical game best  enjoyed by two people working as a team and in which speed is irrelevant.
