Another amazing result for the contessa 26 with family Rogers at the helm. The boat really does have an amazing record round the island. Great to see results like this when you consider all the shiney new equipment it's up against.

Clap

Big hand to those guys.  Amazing effort considering what they were up against yesterday.  It was a tough day on the water all round.  Congrats to that team.

Without detracting from the result in any way, understand that in the usual conditions, big boats sail against the tide on 3 out of 4 legs whereas smaller ones get more fair tide. Also in years where sea breeze plays a part, smaller boats starting and finishing later get more breeze. This is why, most years, a small boat will win the Gold Roman Bowl.

Yes you do detract and you're not factually correct it blew hard all day. Be fair to Nick he and his crew sailed a brilliant first beat mashing many boats on the water that were rated faster than them and started earlier same time. Didn't see much of them after StCats but I'm guessing they carried on sailing well. Look at the results the TP 52s aren't small but they did pretty well. Lesson don't do a handicap race in middle ratings unless you have a bandit...

Yes. Kind of noticed that. We aren't only talking about this year's race.

There were also many other Co26's in the race further outlining the great result for Nick and Co. There is a good video of them coming up through the finish keeping alot of bigger boats behind them.

I started "proper" sailing on a CO26, I say proper because that got me into sailing full on after a few courses I did at a nipper

Same here.....
I sailed on one at our club and remember as a teenager how wonderful they were in big breeze. Then my Dad bought one and we had it for over 10 years. Superb boat and its easy to understand why they have such a big following....

I was at Hurst Castle and they came through so far ahead of their class it was ridiculous, brilliant Solent leg.

The Gold Roman Bowl IS often won by a smaller boat, but if that boat is streets ahead of its fleet, and the results aren't just packed with boats of a similar type, then the main reason surely must be the skill of the crew involved. My father used to crew a CO26 off Newton Ferrers, and loved the boat. Not for those who want the latest whizzbang 6000, of course, but a true classic that can trace its roots way back to the Folkboat.
