yes you are correct , mg duff make anodes specifically for hanging off your boat when moored ,they have a conductive tether which is attached to suitable point on boat.

Anodes have to be electrically bonded to what they are supposed to protect.
They also work much better if physically close.
Personally i've never had much trouble with shaft anodes coming lose.
MG Duff is the brand I've always used.
Maybe you have a metric/imperial mismatch and it's just too loose?
They fit quite exactly.
Perhaps the shaft is worn?
You should use the zinc plated screws provided, with star washers (and loctite if possible).

We have had a lot of trouble with zinc anodes coming off our shaft, it doesn't matter who attaches it it comes off before its life is through.  Does an anode have to be actually attached to the boat to work or could we just hang an anode off the back when we are at anchor.  We will of course start with an attached anode to the shaft as well, and we have one on the prop also.  We have a fiberglass yacht which is stored on the hardstand for nine months of the year in the Med.
